Big Bass Christmas Bash slot by Pragmatic Play — game artwork

The Big Bass Christmas Bash demo is the free, no-signup version of Pragmatic Play’s festive entry in the Big Bass line, and it sits in the series’ best-value tier. At 96.71% it matches the highest RTP of the fifteen Big Bass titles reviewed on this site, and it keeps the standard 5,000× ceiling rather than trading return away for a bigger headline. What it adds over the originals is choice: five modifiers you pick between before the free spins start.

Pragmatic Play · One of the 45 Big Bass and Bigger Bass titles in our catalogue, of which 15 are now reviewed on this site. The series shares a grid and a fisherman; it does not share its maths, and figures must never be carried from one title to another.

The Big Bass Christmas Bash demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 5×3 grid, the same 96.71% maths, the same five modifiers and the same retrigger ladder. Nothing is simplified.

There is a specific reason to use it on this title. The five modifiers genuinely change how a bonus round plays — more fish is a different proposition from more fishermen, and starting at level two is different again — and the only way to understand which you prefer is to reach the round several times. In the demo that costs nothing. At a 100× bonus buy, finding out the hard way costs a great deal.

ProviderPragmatic PlayPragmatic Play publishes a game page for this title, and the 96.71% RTP, the 5×3 grid, the ten paylines, the five bonus modifiers, the four-wild retrigger and the 100× bonus buy all come from it. The studio publishes no volatility rating and no maximum win for this game, as it does not for any Big Bass title, so both of those come from independent databases.

Top line pay5,000× total betNot a Pragmatic figure — the studio publishes no maximum win for this game. The 5,000× comes from VegasSlotsOnline, SlotsTemple and Slot Gods in agreement. It matches the cash ceiling on the money symbols themselves, which run from 2× to 5,000× the total bet, so the cap is reached by collecting rather than by any single line win.
JackpotNone — no jackpotNo jackpot, fixed or progressive. Every payout comes from the paytable, the collected money symbols and the retrigger multipliers stacked on top of them.

More on the figures above. The 96.71% RTP, the 5×3 grid, the ten paylines, the scatter respin, the five bonus modifiers, the fisherman wild, the four-wild retrigger with its x2 multiplier, the dynamite, hook and bazooka base-game features and the 100× bonus buy all come from Pragmatic Play’s own game page. The High volatility rating, the 5,000× ceiling, the 10/15/20 free-spin awards, the 2× to 5,000× money-symbol range and the 0.10 to 250 stake range come from VegasSlotsOnline, with the ceiling corroborated by SlotsTemple and Slot Gods. The release date is disputed between two sources and both are shown. Series comparisons are computed from the 14 other Big Bass reviews published on this site.

How the game plays

The base game is the Big Bass grid, unchanged: 5 reels, 3 rows, 10 fixed paylines, paying left to right. Fish money symbols land carrying cash values, but in the base game they only pay if a fisherman lands with them, and the fisherman is rare. Three base-game features — dynamite, the hook and the bazooka — can fire when money symbols land without one, placing a fisherman on the reels to collect them.

Three or more scatters start the bonus with at least ten free games. There is also a near-miss mechanic worth knowing: two scatters can lock onto the reels for a respin, and the hook can pull a reel down to reveal a third.

Inside the bonus the fisherman becomes a wild and collects every money symbol that lands on the same spin. Every four wilds collected retriggers the feature, adding another ten free games and a multiplier that starts at x2 and climbs through the levels. That is where the game’s top end lives.

The story behind the game

Big Bass Christmas Bash arrived in late 2023, and the exact date is disputed: VegasSlotsOnline records 19 October 2023, Slot Gods records 23 November 2023. We have not been able to settle which is right, so both are stated rather than one being chosen.

It belongs to a series that has grown far beyond its origins. Our catalogue holds 45 Big Bass and Bigger Bass titles, and with this review fifteen of them are covered on this site. The 2020 original, Big Bass Bonanza, reached only 2,100×; the series has since produced ceilings of 25,000× and RTPs as low as 96.04%, which is exactly why the figures from one title can never be used for another.

The festive element here is theme rather than mechanic. Pragmatic’s own page describes a snow-capped lake and nothing structurally Christmas-specific — the modifiers, the retriggers and the collection are all series furniture dressed for December.

The two numbers that explain the game are the money symbol range and the ceiling: both top out at 5,000× total bet. That tells you the cap is reached by collection rather than by any single line win, and it is why the retrigger ladder matters more than the paytable does. A multiplier applied to a collected haul is the only realistic route to the top end.

Bonus features and free spins

🎄

Five modifiers, chosen before the round

Before the free spins begin you pick one of five: more fish, more fishermen, more dynamite, two extra free games, or start at level two. This is the real addition over the earlier Big Bass titles, and the choices are not equivalent — more fishermen raises collection frequency, starting at level two shortens the climb to multipliers, and two extra games is the conservative option.

🤖

The fisherman wild, and the four-wild retrigger

In the bonus the fisherman is wild and collects every money symbol landing on the same spin. Every four wilds collected retriggers the feature: another ten free games, and a multiplier beginning at x2 that rises through the levels. The series’ signature mechanic, and the whole reason a long bonus is worth so much more than a short one.

💥

Dynamite, hook and bazooka in the base game

When money symbols land without a fisherman, one of three features can fire to put one on the reels so the cash is not wasted. It is a meaningful softener on a base game that is otherwise thin, and it is more generous than the original Big Bass Bonanza, which simply let unaccompanied money symbols pay nothing.

🎣

Two-scatter respin with a hook assist

Land two scatters and they can lock onto the reels for a respin, with the hook able to pull a reel down to reveal a third. It converts the series’ most common near-miss into a genuine second chance, which is a small design kindness that the earlier titles did not offer.

💳

Bonus buy at 100×

Free spins can be bought in the base game for 100× your stake. Pragmatic does not publish a separate bonus-buy RTP for this title, which is worth noting: on several other games the studio does, and its absence here means you cannot check whether the shortcut costs you return.

What we like

  • 96.71% matches the highest RTP of any Big Bass title reviewed on this site, level with the 2020 original, Big Bass Splash, Bigger Bass Bonanza and Halloween 2.
  • It keeps the 5,000× ceiling at that RTP — the series’ bigger-ceiling variants all charge return for the privilege, as the comparison below shows.
  • Five modifiers give the bonus a real decision, and they are genuinely different from one another rather than cosmetic re-skins.
  • The two-scatter respin turns the series’ most frustrating near-miss into a second chance, which the earlier titles never did.
  • Dynamite, hook and bazooka rescue base-game money symbols that would simply have paid nothing on the 2020 original.
  • Pragmatic publishes a proper game page, so the RTP, grid, modifiers and retrigger rules are first-hand rather than inferred.
What to watch

  • Pragmatic publishes no maximum win and no volatility rating, so the two figures players care most about are third-party throughout.
  • The release date is genuinely disputed — 19 October against 23 November 2023, with no way to settle it from published sources.
  • VegasSlotsOnline contradicts itself, printing 96.71% in its specification box and 96.17% twice in its body text on the same page.
  • No bonus-buy RTP is published, so there is no way to check whether the 100× shortcut returns less than the base game. On several other Pragmatic titles that figure is public.
  • The base game is thin, as it is across the whole series. Money symbols landing without a fisherman are the normal case, and the rescue features are not frequent.
  • Nothing here is structurally festive. The snow and the hats are a re-skin of series mechanics, so if you have played a recent Big Bass you have played this.

Lining fifteen Big Bass reviews up produces one pattern worth knowing before you choose which to play: in this series, a bigger ceiling is bought with RTP. The three “1000” variants reach 25,000×, 20,000× and 15,000× and return 96.52%, 96.50% and 96.53%. The standard titles stop at 5,000× and return 96.71%. That is roughly two tenths of a point for a fivefold ceiling, and which side of it you want is a genuine preference rather than a right answer. Christmas Bash takes the standard deal and takes the best version of it — top-tier RTP, the full 5,000×, and more bonus structure than the 2020 original, which at the same 96.71% stopped at 2,100×. Against its own family, this is one of the better-balanced entries.

Big Bass Christmas Bash RTP, volatility and max win

Big Bass Christmas Bash is published at more than one RTP. Pragmatic’s own page gives 96.71% and no alternatives, and several independent sources add that the figure is unchanged whether or not the ante bet is active. One warning: VegasSlotsOnline’s specification box says 96.71% while its own body text says 96.17% in two separate places — a page contradicting itself, and the transposed digits make it look like a typo rather than a second build. We have treated 96.71% as correct because it matches the studio, but the information screen in your own client remains the only figure that governs your session.

96.71%the default, and the figure on Pragmatic’s own game page

Pragmatic’s own game page gives 96.71%, and that is the number to work from. Across the fifteen Big Bass titles now reviewed on this site it is the joint-highest, shared with Big Bass Bonanza, Big Bass Splash, Bigger Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Halloween 2. No alternative builds are published for this title, and several sources add that the figure is unchanged whether or not the ante bet is switched on.

One caution about the sources rather than the game. VegasSlotsOnline’s specification box says 96.71%, while its own body text says 96.17% in two separate places. A page disagreeing with itself is not evidence of a second build, and the transposed digits look like a straightforward typo, but it is the kind of thing that gets copied onward until it looks corroborated. We have gone with the studio’s own figure.

Where that return actually goes is the familiar Big Bass answer: into the bonus. The base game pays thinly by design, because money symbols only convert when a fisherman is present, and the fisherman is rare outside the free spins. What distinguishes this entry is that the retrigger ladder adds a multiplier from x2 upward on top of the collection, so a bonus that keeps retriggering is not merely longer than a short one — it is paying at a higher rate as well. That compounding is where a 96.71% game of this shape puts its money.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

Stakes run from 0.10 to 250 per spin, the standard Big Bass range. The 100× bonus buy therefore costs between 10 and 25,000 depending where you sit, which is worth calculating before using it — and worth weighing against the fact that no bonus-buy RTP is published for this title, so you cannot check what the shortcut costs you in return.

Playing on mobile

A 5×3 grid with ten fixed lines is as readable as slot layouts get on a phone, and the series has always been built with that in mind. The one screen that gets busy is a deep bonus round, where collected money values, the wild counter and an active multiplier are all on display at once; a larger screen helps there, but nothing is unreadable without it.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Use the demo to try all five modifiers before you ever buy a bonus. They produce genuinely different rounds, and at 100× a stake, learning which you prefer with real money is an expensive education.
  2. Count wilds, not spins. Every four collected wilds retriggers the feature and raises the multiplier, so the wild counter tells you more about how the round is going than the number of spins left.
  3. Do not carry figures from other Big Bass games. Our catalogue holds 45 of them with ceilings from 2,100× to 25,000× and RTPs from 96.04% to 96.71%. The series shares a fisherman, not its maths.
  4. Note that no bonus-buy RTP is published here. Pragmatic does publish one on several other titles, and its absence means the 100× shortcut cannot be checked for value.
  5. Treat the two-scatter respin as part of the trigger rate, not a bonus. It is a real second chance and it makes near-misses less frequent than on the older titles in the series.
  6. Check the RTP on the in-game information screen. One widely read source prints 96.17% in its body text against the studio’s 96.71%, and that screen is the only figure that applies to your session.

Who this slot is for

Players who already like the Big Bass collection mechanic and want the best-value version of it — top-tier RTP, the full 5,000× ceiling, and more structure in the bonus than the original offered. The five modifiers give it replay value the early titles lack. It is a weaker fit for anyone hoping a Christmas edition means a Christmas mechanic, because it does not, and for anyone who finds the series’ thin base game tedious, because this one is no busier than the rest.

Big Bass Christmas Bash demo and slot FAQ

Can I play the Big Bass Christmas Bash demo for free?
Yes. The demo on this page runs the full game on play credits — the same 5×3 grid, the same 96.71% RTP, the same five modifiers and the same retrigger ladder as the real-money version. No signup, no deposit, no account.
What is the RTP of Big Bass Christmas Bash?
96.71%, according to Pragmatic Play’s own game page, with no alternative builds published. That is the joint-highest RTP of the fifteen Big Bass titles reviewed on this site. One source prints 96.17% in its body text while its own specification box says 96.71%, which looks like transposed digits rather than a second build.
What is the maximum win?
5,000× your total bet, according to VegasSlotsOnline, SlotsTemple and Slot Gods. Pragmatic Play publishes no maximum win for this game, as it does not for any Big Bass title. The figure matches the top value a money symbol can carry, so the cap is reached by collecting rather than by a single line win.
What are the five modifiers?
Before the free spins begin you choose one of: more fish, more fishermen, more dynamite, two extra free games, or starting at level two. They are not equivalent — more fishermen raises how often money symbols convert, while starting at level two shortens the climb to multipliers.
How do the retriggers work?
Inside the bonus the fisherman is wild and collects money symbols. Every four wilds collected retriggers the feature, awarding another ten free games and adding a multiplier that starts at x2 and climbs through the levels. A long bonus therefore pays at a higher rate, not just for longer.
Can I buy the free spins?
Yes, for 100× your stake. Pragmatic does not publish a separate bonus-buy RTP for this title, so unlike several of its other games there is no way to check whether the shortcut returns less than playing for the trigger.
When was Big Bass Christmas Bash released?
Late 2023, but the exact date is disputed. VegasSlotsOnline records 19 October 2023 and Slot Gods records 23 November 2023. We have not been able to settle it, so both are stated.
Is it different from the other Big Bass games?
Mechanically it is a Big Bass game: the same 5×3 grid, the same fisherman collection, the same retrigger idea. What it adds is the five-modifier choice before the bonus and a two-scatter respin. The Christmas element is theme only — there is no festive mechanic.

Our verdict on Big Bass Christmas Bash

8.1/ 10

The best-value tier of the series, with the most choice in the bonus

Big Bass Christmas Bash is a good entry in a series that has become very hard to navigate, and its merit is easiest to see once you line it up against its own family. At 96.71% it matches the highest RTP of the fifteen Big Bass titles reviewed here, and it holds the full 5,000× ceiling while doing it. The variants that promise far more — 25,000×, 20,000×, 15,000× — all pay for it with about two tenths of a point of return. Neither side of that trade is wrong, but it should be a choice made knowingly, and most players never see it laid out.

What this one adds over the originals is structure. Five modifiers before the round is a real decision rather than a cosmetic one, the four-wild retrigger stacks a multiplier on top of the collection so a long bonus compounds, and the two-scatter respin softens the series’ most familiar frustration. Against the 2020 original — same 96.71%, a 2,100× ceiling and none of these features — the progress is obvious.

Three things we could not settle and have not smoothed over. Pragmatic publishes no maximum win and no volatility rating, so both come from third parties. The release date is genuinely disputed between October and November 2023. And no bonus-buy RTP is published, which matters at 100× a stake because it means the shortcut cannot be checked for value — a figure the studio does make public on several of its other games.

If the festive theme is what drew you, be clear that it is only a theme: nothing here is structurally Christmas. If the Big Bass mechanic is what drew you, this is one of the better-balanced ways into it.
