The Deadwood demo is the free, no-signup version of the 2020 game that gave Nolimit City its signature mechanic. xNudge wilds nudge into full view and add +1× to a progressive multiplier with every step, and in the Gunslinger free spins that multiplier is sticky with no upper limit. At 96.03% RTP and 13,950× it is squarely mid-table for this studio — and rated 10/10 volatility by Nolimit City itself.

Play the Deadwood demo free
The Deadwood demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 3-4-4-4-3 reels, the same Bounty Hunter wilds, the same three free-spins modes. Nothing is simplified.
Use it, because this game asks you to choose between bonus modes that behave very differently, and the difference is not obvious from a description. Gunslinger gives eight spins with a multiplier that never resets and has no ceiling. Hunter gives eight spins with a guaranteed wild each spin but a multiplier that resets every time. One of those is a lottery ticket and the other is a wage, and which suits you is a question the demo answers for free.
This demo is part of our Nolimit City demo collection.
Deadwood slot at a glance
More on the figures above. The 3-4-4-4-3 layout, the 576 ways, the Bounty Hunter xNudge wilds, the Shoot Out feature, the Gunslinger, Hunter and Shoot Out free-spins modes, the 71× and 750× bonus buys, the 13,950× ceiling and the 10/10 volatility rating are from SlotCatalog. The 96.03% base RTP is from the same source’s review and FAQ, while its attributes panel gives 94.15% — both are printed above. Pokerlistings gives 96.02%. The release history — 22 April 2020 as a Royal Panda exclusive, 5 May 2020 wide — is from SlotCatalog, with Gameshub corroborating 5 May. Deadwood R.I.P.’s 96.09% and 100,000× are from OLBG and are listed only to keep the two games apart. Comparison figures for the other eight Nolimit City titles are from our own published reviews.
How the game plays
The reels are 3-4-4-4-3 — narrow at the edges, four high through the middle — giving 576 ways to win. Wins need three to five matching symbols along a way. The top symbols are modest by design: five gold bars pay 3.75×, a gold watch 3×, a safe 2.5×, and the royals between 1× and 1.25×.
Those numbers look thin until you understand where the money actually comes from. Bounty Hunter Wilds land on reels 2, 3 and 4 standing four symbols high, then xNudge — they nudge until fully in view, and every single nudge adds 1× to a progressive multiplier. Three nudged wilds in the middle of a 576-way grid is the entire game in one spin.
Shoot Out fires in the base game when a sheriff badge lands on reels 1 and 5 together: every royal symbol on reels 2 to 4 turns wild.
A buffalo skull scatter opens the free spins, and you get a choice of mode:
Gunslinger Spins — 8 spins, with a sticky progressive xNudge multiplier that has no upper limit and never resets. The most volatile option by a distance. Hunter Spins — 8 spins with at least one Bounty Hunter Wild guaranteed per spin, but the multiplier resets each spin. Shoot Out Free Spins — 10 spins with the sheriff badges sticky on reels 1 and 5. Sheriff badges landing during Gunslinger or Hunter award an extra spin.
Bonus buys, where permitted, cost 71× for the regular rounds and 750× for Shoot Out.
The story behind the game
Deadwood launched on 22 April 2020 as a Royal Panda exclusive and went to wide release on 5 May 2020. That two-week exclusivity window is worth noting because it is the same commercial pattern we documented on Big Bass Rock and Roll — studios increasingly ship a title to one operator first, and sometimes on different terms.
Its importance is mechanical. xNudge — a wild that nudges into full view and pays you a multiplier step for every row it travels — is now the mechanic Nolimit City is identified with, and Deadwood is where it arrived. Our archive already holds Hot Nudge, built on the same idea, and the studio has reused it repeatedly since.
The sequel confuses search results and is worth separating. Deadwood R.I.P. (4 June 2024) is a different game: 96.09% RTP and a 100,000× ceiling against this game’s 13,950×. Same town, same brand, a ceiling more than seven times larger. Figures quoted for one do not carry to the other.

Read the top-symbol row and the Gunslinger row together. Five gold bars pay 3.75× — almost nothing. The ceiling is 13,950×. Nothing in the paytable can bridge that gap; only the multiplier can. That is the whole architecture of the game, and it is why the base game feels so flat between bonuses.
Bonus features and free spins
Bounty Hunter Wilds and xNudge
Wilds land on reels 2, 3 and 4 standing four symbols high, then nudge until fully visible — and every nudge adds 1× to a progressive multiplier. This is the mechanic the studio built its identity on, and Deadwood is where it first appeared.
Shoot Out
A sheriff badge on reels 1 and 5 on the same spin turns every royal symbol on reels 2 to 4 wild. It fires in the base game, which makes it the one thing that can rescue an ordinary spin without a bonus.
Gunslinger Spins — no multiplier ceiling
Eight free spins with a sticky progressive xNudge multiplier that never resets and has no upper limit. SlotCatalog calls it the most volatile option, and it is the only route to the 13,950× ceiling worth taking seriously.
Hunter Spins — the steadier bargain
Eight free spins with at least one Bounty Hunter Wild guaranteed on every spin, but the multiplier resets each spin. More reliable, far lower variance, and structurally incapable of the enormous outcome Gunslinger can produce.
Shoot Out Free Spins
Ten spins with the sheriff badges held sticky on reels 1 and 5, so the royals-to-wilds conversion is live throughout. The most expensive round to buy at 750× stake where bonus buys are permitted.
- xNudge is still one of the best wild mechanics in the genre, and this is the game that introduced it
- A genuine strategic choice between Gunslinger and Hunter spins, not a cosmetic one
- Gunslinger’s multiplier is sticky with no upper limit — rare, and the reason the ceiling is reachable
- Nolimit City publishes its own volatility rating (10/10), which almost no studio here does
- Shoot Out gives the base game something to do between bonuses
- 96.03% sits right inside this studio’s very tight 95.99–96.29% band in our archive
- One source prints two RTPs — 96.03% in its review, 94.15% in its attributes panel
- The paytable is deliberately thin: five gold bars pay just 3.75×
- Rated 10/10 volatility by the studio itself — the base game can be bleak for long stretches
- 13,950× is mid-table for Nolimit City; the sequel reaches 100,000×
- SlotCatalog says four bonus rounds but names three, so even the feature count is inconsistent
- Bonus buys at 71× and 750× are not available in every market
How Deadwood compares
How it sits against the other eight Nolimit City games in our archive.
| Game | RTP | Max win | Layout | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hot Nudge | 96.29% | 2,413× | 5 × 4 | same nudge family |
| Ding Dong Death | 96.08% | 14,280× | 6 × 3 | — |
| Deadwood | 96.03% | 13,950× | 3-4-4-4-3 | this review |
| Golden Shower | 96.04% | 19,999× | 6 × 5 | — |
| Soaked by Seamen | 96.04% | 30,000× | 5 reels | — |
| Duck Hunters 2 | 96.00% | 40,000× | 5 reels | studio high here |
Two things stand out from that column of RTPs. The first is how extraordinarily narrow it is: across nine Nolimit City reviews the range runs from 95.99% to 96.29%, a spread of 0.30 points. For comparison, our fifteen Big Bass reviews span 0.67 points and our Play’n GO archive spans more than two. This studio configures its catalogue more tightly than anyone else we cover.
The second is that the ceilings do not follow the RTP at all. Duck Hunters 2 returns 96.00% and reaches 40,000×; Hot Nudge returns more, at 96.29%, and stops at 2,413×. Where Big Bass trades return against ceiling with near-mathematical consistency, Nolimit City holds the return flat and lets the ceiling swing by a factor of sixteen. Deadwood sits in the middle of that range on both counts — which, on a studio this volatile, makes it one of the more moderate games it publishes.
Deadwood RTP, volatility and max win
Deadwood is published at more than one RTP.The same source prints two different numbers. SlotCatalog’s review and FAQ say 96.03%; its attributes panel says 94.15%. We saw an identical split on Moon Princess (96.50% against 94.51% on one page). The likeliest reading is that both are real builds and the panels index different ones — which means the only figure that describes your session is the one in the game’s information screen.
| 96.03% | the base-game figure given in SlotCatalog’s review and FAQ |
|---|---|
| 96.02% | Pokerlistings’ figure — rounding, not disagreement |
| 94.15% | the figure in SlotCatalog’s attributes panel, on the same page as 96.03% |
The base game returns 96.03% according to SlotCatalog’s review and FAQ, with Pokerlistings giving 96.02% — the same figure rounded. That places it almost exactly in the middle of our Nolimit City archive, where nine reviews now span just 95.99% to 96.29%.
But the same SlotCatalog page that says 96.03% in its review says 94.15% in its attributes panel. We have now seen this exact pattern twice. On Moon Princess, the same source gave 96.50% in its technical summary and 94.51% in its attributes. Both times the gap is roughly 1.9 to 2.0 points, and both times the lower figure sits where a second rung on a studio’s RTP ladder would naturally sit.
We do not think that is a coincidence or a typo. The likeliest explanation is that both figures are real builds of the game and the two panels are indexing different ones — precisely the situation we documented on Tome of Madness, where a widely-indexed 96.59% headline was found running as 94.52% at four UK operators.
The practical consequence is the same every time and we will keep repeating it: the number in the game’s own information screen is the only one that describes your session. A database entry describes a game that exists somewhere; it does not describe the build your casino licensed.
One genuine positive on sourcing: Nolimit City publishes its own volatility rating and scores this game 10 out of 10. Almost no studio in this archive does that, and it is worth more than a third-party guess.
Bets, bankroll and session planning
Bonus buys, where your market permits them, are priced at 71× stake for Gunslinger or Hunter and 750× for Shoot Out Free Spins. That ten-to-one gap tells you what the studio thinks the Shoot Out round is worth.
With a paytable this thin and a studio-rated 10/10 volatility, stake sizing matters more here than on most games in this archive. The base game is not designed to sustain you — five gold bars pay 3.75× — so a stake that survives a long dry run is the difference between reaching a Gunslinger round and not.
Playing on mobile
The 3-4-4-4-3 layout is narrower at the edges than a standard five-reel grid, which actually helps on a phone — there is less width to compress.
The thing to watch on a small screen is the xNudge multiplier counter. Because it increments once per row nudged and, in Gunslinger spins, never resets, it is the single number that tells you what the round is currently worth. On a narrow display it is easy to miss while the reels are moving.
Five things to know before you spin
- Choose your free-spins mode deliberately. Gunslinger’s multiplier is sticky and uncapped; Hunter’s resets every spin. They are different games.
- Gunslinger is the only realistic route to the 13,950× ceiling. Hunter is the one that pays more often and much less.
- Watch the multiplier counter, not the balance. In Gunslinger it never resets, so the round’s value is held there.
- Check the RTP in the game’s information panel — one major database prints both 96.03% and 94.15% for this title.
- Do not confuse it with Deadwood R.I.P. — a 2024 sequel at 96.09% with a 100,000× ceiling.
- The base paytable is meant to be thin. If you are judging this game by its five-of-a-kind wins, you are reading the wrong number.

Who this slot is for
This is for a player who understands what a 10/10 volatility rating means and wants it anyway. The xNudge mechanic is genuinely excellent, Gunslinger’s uncapped sticky multiplier is one of the better bonus structures in this archive, and the choice between the two main modes is a real decision rather than a flavour.
It is not for anyone who needs the base game to keep them entertained. Five gold bars paying 3.75× is a deliberate design choice — all the value is held back for the multiplier — and the studio’s own rating tells you how that feels in practice. If you want this studio’s mechanics at a gentler pace, Hot Nudge in our archive returns more (96.29%) and caps far lower (2,413×).

Our verdict on Deadwood
The game that gave Nolimit City its mechanic — and still one of its more balanced
Deadwood is where xNudge arrived, and six years later it remains one of the smartest wild mechanics in the genre. A wild that lands too tall for the window, nudges itself into view, and pays you a multiplier step for every row it travels is the rare feature that is both easy to understand and genuinely consequential. Our archive already holds Hot Nudge from the same family; this is the original.
The architecture is honest about itself. Five gold bars pay 3.75× — the paytable is deliberately threadbare — because every bit of withheld value is pushed into the multiplier. Nolimit City rates the result 10 out of 10 for volatility on its own scale, which is more candour than almost any studio in this archive offers, and it is accurate. The base game is a long wait punctuated by Shoot Out.
What lifts it is the choice. Gunslinger Spins carry a sticky progressive multiplier with no upper limit that never resets; Hunter Spins guarantee a wild every spin but reset the multiplier each time. Those are not two difficulty settings, they are two different bets, and being asked to make that call is more interesting than most bonus rounds in this archive manage.
At 96.03% and 13,950× it sits mid-table for this studio on both counts — which, given that our nine Nolimit City reviews span a remarkable 0.30 points of RTP while their ceilings range from 2,413× to 40,000×, makes Deadwood one of the more moderate things the studio publishes. The sequel reaches 100,000× if you want the extreme version.
The one blemish is paperwork, not design: a major database prints 96.03% in its review and 94.15% in its attributes panel for the same game, the second time we have found that exact pattern. Open the information screen at your casino and read the number yourself.
