Lion Saga Odyssey slot by Play'n GO — game artwork

The Lion Saga Odyssey demo is the free, no-signup version of Play’n GO’s December 2024 release, and on the default build it is the highest-returning Play’n GO game in our archive at 96.58%. It pairs that with a 1 in 3.22 hit frequency — a win roughly every third spin — and a free-spins round that can stack up to nine different expanding symbols at once. The catch is the RTP ladder underneath it, which drops as far as 84.55%.

Play’n GO · A standalone Lion Saga release rather than part of a numbered series, though the free-spins engine — one randomly chosen symbol that expands to fill a reel — is the same idea Play’n GO has been building on since the Book of Dead line.

The Lion Saga Odyssey demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 5×3 grid, the same ten selectable lines, the same expanding-symbol bonus. Nothing is simplified.

There is a particular reason to use it here. This game lets you choose how many paylines are active, from one to ten, and that choice interacts with the 5,000× cap in a way that is genuinely counterintuitive — fewer lines means a higher potential multiplier per unit staked, because the cap is on the payout rather than on the bet. The demo is the sensible place to work out whether you prefer the steadier ten-line game or the sharper one-line version.

The cap is also the thing that ends the bonus: Play’n GO’s own page states that free-spin retriggers are unlimited and continue until the win cap is reached, which makes 5,000× a hard terminator rather than a theoretical ceiling.

More on the figures above. The 5×3 layout, the 10 paylines, the 5 December 2024 release date, the 8 free spins, the unlimited retriggers and the expanding-symbol mechanic come from Play’n GO’s own game page. The five RTP builds, the High (8/10) volatility rating, the 5,000× ceiling, the 1 in 8,771,929 max-win probability, the 1 in 3.22 hit frequency, the 0.10 to 100 stake range and the gamble rules come from BigWinBoard. One SlotsLaunch listing shows 94.51% as the headline RTP, which is a reduced build rather than a contradiction. The archive comparisons are computed from the 13 Play’n GO reviews published on this site.

How the game plays

It is a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines, and unusually for a modern release you can switch lines off: anywhere from 1 to 10 can be active. Wins pay left to right along active lines in the ordinary way.

The Spirit symbol does double duty. It is the wild, substituting for every paying symbol except expanding ones, and it is also the scatter. Landing three, four or five of them pays 2×, 20× or 200× your bet and awards 8 free spins.

Before those spins begin, the game picks one high-paying symbol at random and makes it a special expanding symbol. From then on, whenever enough of that symbol land, it fully stacks its reel — and crucially it pays on every active line from any position, without needing to be adjacent. That last clause is what separates this from an ordinary stacked-symbol feature: position stops mattering entirely.

Retriggering with three or more scatters adds another 8 spins and selects another expanding symbol, up to a maximum of nine in play at once.

The story behind the game

Play’n GO released Lion Saga Odyssey on 5 December 2024 — a date confirmed on the studio’s own game page and corroborated by AboutSlots.

The core idea is one Play’n GO has been refining for years: a bonus round in which a randomly chosen symbol expands to fill a reel, which is the engine behind the studio’s Book of Dead line and its many descendants. What is new here is the stacking of it. Where the classic version picks one expanding symbol and keeps it for the round, this one adds a further symbol on every retrigger, up to nine. A long bonus therefore does not just last longer, it fundamentally changes what the reels can do.

The two figures that define the session are the 1 in 3.22 hit frequency and the 1 in 8,771,929 max-win probability. A win roughly every third spin keeps the base game moving, while the ceiling sits almost nine million spins away. That is a wide gap, and it is the signature of a game built to feel busy at the bottom and stay rare at the top.

Bonus features and free spins

🦁

The Spirit symbol — wild and scatter in one

It substitutes for every paying symbol except expanding ones, and simultaneously acts as the scatter. Three, four or five pay 2×, 20× or 200× your bet on top of awarding the bonus. Because one symbol does both jobs, the same landing can be paying you and triggering the round at once.

↕

Expanding symbols that ignore position

Before free spins begin, one high-paying symbol is chosen at random. When enough of it lands it fully stacks its reel and pays on all active lines from any position, without needing to be adjacent. Dropping the adjacency requirement is the whole point: a symbol scattered across the reels pays exactly as well as one lined up neatly.

🔄

Retriggers that add symbols, not just spins

Three or more scatters during the bonus award another 8 spins and select a further expanding symbol, up to nine at once. A round that retriggers repeatedly is playing a materially different game by the end of it — with nine expanding symbols in play, most of the paytable has become capable of filling a reel.

🎯

Selectable paylines, and what they do to the cap

You can run anywhere from 1 to 10 lines. Because the 5,000× ceiling caps the payout rather than the stake, lowering the line count raises the multiplier you can reach per unit staked. It is a real strategic lever rather than a cosmetic option, and very few modern releases still offer it.

🃏

A gamble ladder that does not cost RTP

Any main-game win can be gambled up to five times in a row, capped at 2,500 coins. A correct colour guess doubles it; a correct suit quadruples it. BigWinBoard notes the gamble does not affect the RTP, which makes it a pure variance control: it changes the shape of your results without changing the long-run deal.

What we like

  • 96.58% on the default build is the highest Play’n GO RTP in our archive of 13 reviews from the studio, above Reactoonz at 96.51%.
  • A 1 in 3.22 hit frequency — a win roughly every third spin — which keeps the base game from going cold while you wait for the bonus.
  • Expanding symbols that pay from any position, with no adjacency requirement, which removes the usual frustration of nearly-lined-up stacks.
  • Retriggers that add a new expanding symbol each time, up to nine, so a long bonus genuinely escalates rather than just continuing.
  • Selectable paylines are a real lever on a capped game, and almost extinct in modern releases.
  • The gamble does not affect RTP, making it an honest variance control rather than a tax on impatience.
What to watch

  • Five RTP builds spanning 12.03 points, down to 84.55%. On the worst build the house edge is more than three times the default, and nothing on screen tells you which you are playing.
  • 1 in 8,771,929 for the maximum win. The 5,000× headline is effectively decorative for almost every player.
  • Play’n GO publishes no RTP, volatility or max win on its own game page, so every number that matters here comes from a third party.
  • The win cap terminates the bonus. Unlimited retriggers sound generous until you read that they run only until the cap is hit — the ceiling is a hard stop, not a target.
  • A 5×3 with ten lines is conservative for a December 2024 release, when much of the market had moved to cluster and ways engines.
  • One SlotsLaunch listing shows 94.51% as the headline, which is a reduced build in circulation rather than an error — evidence the lower rungs are genuinely deployed.

How Lion Saga Odyssey compares

How it sits against the other Play’n GO titles reviewed on this site, using our own published figures.

GameRTPLowest buildMax winLayout
Lion Saga Odyssey96.58%84.55%5,000×5 × 3, 10 lines
Reactoonz96.51%—4,570×7 × 7 cluster
Triple Launch Fortune Wild96.24%84.23%—Reels
Annihilator96.20%——Reels
Fate’s Fortune96.20%84.20%—Reels

Two patterns show up once the studio’s catalogue is lined up. First, Lion Saga Odyssey has the best default RTP of any Play’n GO game we have reviewed — seven hundredths of a point above Reactoonz, which is a small margin but a genuine top spot. Second, and more useful to know, the 84.55% floor is not an outlier at all. Every Play’n GO title in our archive that publishes an RTP ladder bottoms out within half a point of 84%: Fate’s Fortune at 84.20%, Triple Launch Fortune Wild at 84.23%, Cops n Robbers at 84.46%. This is a house practice, not a quirk of one game. If you play this studio, reading the information panel before you spin is not optional — across seven of our reviews, the same twelve-point drop is sitting there waiting.

Lion Saga Odyssey RTP, volatility and max win

Lion Saga Odyssey is published at more than one RTP. Five published builds, spanning 12.03 points from top to bottom. That sounds extreme and it is, but it is not unusual for this studio: seven other Play’n GO titles reviewed on this site carry ladders of almost exactly the same shape, all bottoming out near 84%. At 84.55% an operator keeps more than three times the house edge of the default build, and nothing on the game screen announces which one you are on except the information panel. Check it every time.

96.58%the default, and the only build worth playing
94.51%two points down
91.51%five points down
87.56%nine points down
84.55%twelve points down — the floor

The default is 96.58%, comfortably above the industry average, and across the 13 Play’n GO reviews on this site nothing returns more — Reactoonz at 96.51% held the top spot until now. On that build this is a good deal.

The problem is everything underneath it. BigWinBoard lists five configurations: 96.58%, 94.51%, 91.51%, 87.56% and 84.55%. From top to bottom that is a spread of 12.03 points, and at the floor an operator keeps roughly 15.45% of every stake against 3.42% on the default — more than three times the edge for a game that looks and plays identically.

We can be unusually confident this is not theoretical. One SlotsLaunch listing for this title shows 94.51% as its headline figure, which is the second rung of the ladder appearing in the wild. And the pattern repeats across the studio: seven other Play’n GO games reviewed here carry ladders of near-identical shape, all ending within half a point of 84%. Fate’s Fortune, Reactoonz Blitzways, Legion Gold and the Throne of Dead and Infernal Trinity GO Guaranteed all bottom out at exactly 84.20%.

The practical consequence is simple and worth repeating. Nothing in the artwork, the sound or the behaviour of the reels changes between a 96.58% build and an 84.55% one. The only place the difference is visible is the in-game information panel, and on this studio more than most, it is worth opening every time.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

Stakes run from 0.10 to 100 per spin. The more interesting control is the line count: with 1 to 10 paylines selectable and a cap that limits the payout rather than the stake, running fewer lines raises the multiplier reachable per unit staked. That makes line selection a genuine decision rather than a leftover from an older design, and it is worth experimenting with in the demo before committing to a style.

Playing on mobile

A 5×3 grid with ten lines is about as phone-friendly as a slot layout gets — fifteen positions, large symbols, and no cluster geometry to trace. The one screen that benefits from size is a deep bonus round, where up to nine different expanding symbols can be active at once and keeping track of which ones are live gets busy on a small display.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Open the information panel before you spin, every single time. Five builds are published and the bottom one is 12 points below the top. This is the most important thing on the page.
  2. Treat 94.51% as a real possibility, not a footnote. A SlotsLaunch listing already shows that build as its headline figure, so the lower rungs are genuinely deployed.
  3. Experiment with the line count in the demo. Because the cap limits the payout rather than the stake, fewer active lines raises the multiplier you can reach per unit bet — a real lever, and free to test here.
  4. Judge the bonus by retriggers, not by length. Each one adds another expanding symbol, up to nine, so a round that retriggers three times is playing a different game from one that does not.
  5. Remember the cap ends the round. Play’n GO states retriggers are unlimited but run only until the win cap is reached, so 5,000× is a hard stop rather than something to chase past.
  6. Use the gamble deliberately or not at all. It does not affect RTP, so it is a pure variance choice — useful if you want sharper swings, pointless if you do not.

Who this slot is for

Players who want a conventional, readable five-reel game with a bonus round that escalates properly, and who value a frequent base game — a win roughly every third spin is high for a title rated high volatility. The selectable paylines give it more depth than its layout suggests. It is a poor fit for anyone unwilling to check the RTP build before playing, because on this game more than most the number you are offered may not be the number advertised, and the gap runs to twelve points.

Lion Saga Odyssey demo and slot FAQ

Can I play the Lion Saga Odyssey demo for free?
Yes. The demo on this page runs the full game on play credits — the same 5×3 grid, the same ten selectable lines and the same expanding-symbol bonus as the real-money version. No signup, no deposit, no account.
What is the RTP of Lion Saga Odyssey?
The default build is 96.58%, which is the highest of any Play’n GO game in our archive. But five builds are published: 96.58%, 94.51%, 91.51%, 87.56% and 84.55%. Check the in-game information panel, because the lower builds are genuinely in circulation.
What is the maximum win?
5,000× your bet, with the probability of reaching it put at 1 in 8,771,929. The cap also ends the bonus round — Play’n GO states that free-spin retriggers are unlimited but continue only until the win cap is reached.
How do the free spins work?
Three or more Spirit symbols award 8 free spins, and pay 2×, 20× or 200× your bet for three, four or five. Before the round starts, one high-paying symbol is randomly made an expanding symbol that fills its reel and pays on all active lines from any position, with no adjacency needed.
How many expanding symbols can be active at once?
Up to nine. You start with one, and every retrigger — three or more scatters during the round — adds another 8 spins and selects a further expanding symbol.
Can I change the number of paylines?
Yes, from 1 to 10. Because the 5,000× ceiling caps the payout rather than the stake, running fewer lines raises the multiplier reachable per unit staked. It is a genuine strategic choice, and rare in modern releases.
Does the gamble feature reduce the RTP?
No. Any main-game win can be gambled up to five times in a row, capped at 2,500 coins, with a correct colour doubling and a correct suit quadrupling. BigWinBoard notes it does not affect the RTP, so it changes your variance rather than your long-run return.
When was Lion Saga Odyssey released?
5 December 2024, confirmed on Play’n GO’s own game page and corroborated by AboutSlots.

Our verdict on Lion Saga Odyssey

7.9/ 10

The studio’s best RTP on this site, sitting on top of a twelve-point trapdoor

On its default build, Lion Saga Odyssey is a straightforwardly good game and the best-returning Play’n GO title in our archive. A 1 in 3.22 hit frequency keeps the base game alive, which matters on a release rated 8 out of 10 for volatility, and the bonus escalates in a way that most expanding-symbol rounds do not — nine symbols in play by the end of a well-retriggered round turns most of the paytable into something that can fill a reel. The selectable paylines are a genuine lever on a capped game and are nearly extinct elsewhere.

The reservation is the ladder, and it is not a small one. Five builds, 12.03 points from top to bottom, and a floor at 84.55% where the operator keeps more than three times the edge. We can be unusually sure this is live rather than theoretical, because a SlotsLaunch listing for this very game already shows 94.51% as its headline number. The second rung is in circulation.

What makes this worth saying plainly is that it is not one game’s problem. Seven other Play’n GO titles reviewed on this site carry ladders of near-identical shape, four of them bottoming at exactly 84.20%. That is a house practice. If you play this studio at all, the information panel is part of the game.

So: a strong recommendation on 96.58%, a poor deal at 84.55%, and the only thing standing between those two outcomes is whether you look. Play the demo, try it at one line and at ten, and then check the build before you spin for real.
