Big Bass Halloween slot by Pragmatic Play — game artwork

The Big Bass Halloween demo is the fisherman in a pumpkin patch, and on the numbers it is the weakest game in its own family. Pragmatic publishes 96.04% RTP for it — the lowest of the thirteen Big Bass and fishing titles reviewed on this site — and caps its cash fish at 2,000×, where most of the series runs to 5,000×. Its own direct sequel, Big Bass Halloween 2, is recorded here at 96.71%. If you are choosing between the two, that is most of the decision made.

Top line payNot published — see the notePragmatic publishes no maximum win for this game. Its page states that cash-carrying fish land with values of “2x-2,000x the player’s bet”, which is the range a single fish can hold, not a game ceiling. Note that this range tops out at 2,000×, well below the 5,000× fish cap Pragmatic publishes for several other games in the series.
JackpotNoneNo jackpot, fixed or progressive. The top end is built from collected fish values multiplied by the retrigger multipliers, which reach 10× on the third retrigger.

More on the figures above. The 96.04% RTP, the 5×3 grid, the 10 paylines, the 2×–2,000× fish value range, the up-to-20 free games, the every-fourth-fisherman retrigger and the x2/x3/x10 retrigger multipliers all come from Pragmatic Play’s own game page. The studio publishes no volatility rating, no maximum win and no release date for this title. The volatility reading is third-party. All comparison figures are taken from the twelve other Big Bass and fishing reviews already published on this site.

How the game plays

Five reels, three rows, ten paylines — and for once Pragmatic publishes that, stating plainly that players need to land a winning combination across ten paylines on a 5×3 grid. It is a refreshing change from the blanks elsewhere in this series.

The engine is the series standard. The hook-wielding fisherman is the wild. Cash-carrying fish land with random money values, which Pragmatic states as a range of 2× to 2,000× the bet. They sit on the reels doing nothing until the free games arrive.

Three or more scatters trigger the bonus, awarding up to twenty free games. During the round the fisherman collects the values of every fish in view, and the fisherman symbols are themselves collected — every fourth one triggers an extra ten free games. Each retrigger applies a multiplier to the fish values: x2 on the first, x3 on the second, and x10 on the third. The whole upside of the game lives in reaching that third retrigger, which needs twelve fishermen in a single feature.

The story behind the game

Big Bass Bonanza launched in 2020 and Reel Kingdom has been reissuing it ever since — Vegas versions, Christmas versions, Halloween versions, 1000-series versions. The seasonal entries are the clearest expression of the strategy: take an engine that works, change the art, ship it to coincide with a date on the calendar. This is the first Halloween one. A second followed, and the second is better on the only number that both publish, which makes this an unusually clean example of a reissue being improved upon rather than merely repeated.

The fish range is the row that quietly separates this game from its siblings. Pragmatic publishes a 2×–2,000× range here, where several other Big Bass titles state fish values reaching 5,000×. A lower fish cap and a lower RTP in the same game is not a coincidence — it is a less generous build of the same engine, and both numbers come from Pragmatic’s own pages.

Bonus features and free spins

🎃

The fisherman collects, as always

The hook-wielding fisherman is the wild, and during the free games he collects the cash value of every fish currently in view. The core loop of the entire series, unchanged.

✖

x2, x3, then x10

Each retrigger multiplies collected fish values — two on the first, three on the second, ten on the third. The jump to the third is enormous relative to the first two and is effectively the only route to a large result.

🐟

Fish top out at 2,000×

Pragmatic states fish values of 2× to 2,000×. That is a materially lower cap than the 5,000× the studio publishes for several other games in this series, and it limits what any single collection can be worth.

🎣

Twenty games, extended by fours

Three or more scatters award up to twenty free games, and every fourth fisherman adds ten more. Twelve fishermen in one feature is what the x10 multiplier requires.

What we like

  • Pragmatic publishes the grid and the paylines — 5×3 and 10 — which several other games in this series do not, and it makes the page genuinely more useful.
  • It still clears the 96% reference, if only by four hundredths of a point.
  • Up to twenty free games is a generous starting round, more than the ten or fifteen several siblings begin with.
  • The x10 third retrigger is a real payoff and gives long rounds somewhere worth reaching.
  • Ten lines on a 5×3 grid is completely readable, with nothing to replay or decipher.
  • The demo is the whole game, so the seasonal art and the retrigger ladder can both be judged for nothing.
What to watch

  • 96.04% is the lowest RTP of the thirteen Big Bass and fishing games reviewed on this site. Not by a rounding margin — the classic titles run at 96.71%.
  • Its own sequel returns more. Big Bass Halloween 2 is recorded here at 96.71%, two-thirds of a point better for the same seasonal idea.
  • Fish cap at 2,000×, against 5,000× published for several siblings. The ceiling on a single collection is lower as well as the return.
  • No published maximum win. The figures quoted elsewhere trace back to the fish range, which is not a game ceiling.
  • No published volatility rating, so “high” is a third-party reading rather than the studio’s.
  • Operators license lower-RTP builds of Pragmatic games routinely, which on a game already at 96.04% leaves very little headroom.

How Big Bass Halloween compares

Against four Big Bass games reviewed here, including the direct sequel and the other Halloween entry. Every figure is the one recorded in that game’s own review on this site.

GameRTPFish capCeilingPosition
Big Bass Halloween96.04%2,000×UnpublishedThe first Halloween
Big Bass Halloween 296.71%—5,000×The direct sequel
Big Bass Splash Halloween 100096.5%—20,000×The 1000-series Halloween
Big Bass Bonanza96.71%—2,100×The 2020 original
Big Bass Splash96.71%—5,000×The upgrade version

There is no comfortable reading of that table. This game returns less than every other entry in it, including both of the other Halloween games, and its own direct sequel beats it by two-thirds of a point. Three of the four comparison titles sit at 96.71%, which is the series standard, and this one is nearly seven tenths below that standard. If the Halloween theme is what you want, Pragmatic has shipped two better versions of it since.

Big Bass Halloween RTP, volatility and max win

96.04% is Pragmatic’s published figure, and it clears the 96% reference by four hundredths of a point — technically above it and functionally at it. The problem is the company it keeps. Across the thirteen Big Bass and fishing reviews on this site, the classic titles hold 96.71% and the modern 1000-series sits around 96.5%; this game is the floor of the entire set. Add the usual caveat that operators license their own builds, and a casino running a reduced version of a game that starts at 96.04% leaves a player with very little. The information screen inside the game states what your casino actually licensed, and on this title it is worth checking before anything else.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

Pragmatic publishes no stake range for this game, so none is given here. The fish values and the retrigger multipliers are all expressed relative to the bet, so the shape of a session is the same at any stake — a 2,000× fish is 2,000× whatever you staked.

Playing on mobile

A 5×3 grid with ten lines is easy on a phone and the demo above runs in a mobile browser with no app or download. The number worth tracking on a small screen is the fisherman count, because every fourth one extends the round and moves the multiplier, and it is easy to lose that thread while the collection animation plays.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Compare it with the sequel before you play. Big Bass Halloween 2 is recorded on this site at 96.71% against this game’s 96.04%, for the same seasonal idea and the same engine.
  2. Count fishermen, not spins. Every fourth one retriggers, and only retriggers move the multiplier. Twelve in a single feature is what the x10 requires.
  3. Note the fish cap. Pragmatic states 2× to 2,000× here, against 5,000× on several siblings, so a single big fish is worth less in this game than in the rest of the series.
  4. Do not treat any quoted ceiling as official. Pragmatic publishes no maximum win for this game; figures circulating elsewhere trace back to the fish range.
  5. Check the RTP on the information screen. At 96.04% there is almost no margin above the reference, and operators license their own builds.
  6. Play the demo for the art, not the maths. The seasonal presentation is the genuine appeal here. 18+, and set a limit before you leave free play.

Who this slot is for

For players who want the Big Bass loop with Halloween dressing and are playing for the theme rather than the return. The twenty-game starting round is generous and the x10 third retrigger gives a long feature a real target. It is difficult to recommend on numbers: it is the lowest-returning game of the thirteen in this family reviewed here, it caps its fish lower than its siblings, and Pragmatic has since published a direct sequel that returns two-thirds of a point more.

Our verdict on Big Bass Halloween

6.8/ 10

The weakest fish in a very large pond

There is nothing wrong with how this game plays. The fisherman collects, the free games run to twenty, the retrigger ladder climbs to a x10 that makes a long round worth staying in, and the Halloween art is doing exactly what seasonal art is supposed to do. Pragmatic even publishes the grid and the payline count here, which it withholds on several of this series’ other pages.

The trouble is that this site has now reviewed thirteen games from this family, and that archive makes the comparison unavoidable. At 96.04% this is the lowest-returning of all of them. Its cash fish cap at 2,000× where siblings reach 5,000×. No maximum win is published. And Pragmatic itself has since released Big Bass Halloween 2, recorded here at 96.71%, which is the same idea executed two-thirds of a point more generously. Play this one in the demo if the pumpkins appeal. If you are going to play a Big Bass game for money this Halloween, play the sequel.
