Vegas Diamonds slot by ELK Studios — game artwork

ELK Studios does not make games like this. A 3 × 3 grid with five paylines, fruit-machine furniture and a Vegas neon finish — from the studio behind Pirots, Wild Toro and Bushido Gold.

It is better than the board suggests. Three features sit on top of it, and the best of them is the Fortune Wheel: three bonus symbols buy you three guaranteed spins on a wheel that climbs from Bronze to Silver to Golden, paying 100× up to 1,000×. 96% RTP, high volatility.

The demo below runs the full game on play credits. Worth playing to see the nudge in particular — three diamonds anywhere on the grid cause the reels to physically shift to line them up, which is a mechanic that reads oddly in writing and makes immediate sense on screen. This demo is part of our ELK Studios demo collection.

More on the figures above. No overall maximum win is printed here because the sources contradict each other. One database shows “Max Win: N/A” in its header and “Max. win: 200000” in its attribute list on the same page — and that second figure is a coin total, not a stake multiple, so it cannot be read as a ceiling without knowing the coin value. What is published and reliable is the Fortune Wheel ladder, which runs from 100× at Bronze to 1,000× at Golden. The page also confirms RTP ranges exist — more than one certified build — without saying what the alternatives are. A hit frequency of 14.4 is listed with no unit given, so it is not quoted as a percentage here.

How the game plays

Three reels, three rows, five paylines. That is the smallest board on this entire site, and roughly a sixtieth of the positions ELK gives you in Pirots.

Three features carry it.

Perfect Match Respins. When reels 1 and 2 land matching symbols, both lock in place for three respins while reel 3 keeps spinning. On a five-line board that is a focused, legible mechanic — you know exactly what you need and you get three attempts at it.

The Vegas Diamonds Nudge. If three Vegas Diamonds symbols are anywhere in view, the reels nudge to align them on the middle row. The game takes a near-miss and completes it, which is a piece of old-fashioned fruit-machine generosity that almost nothing modern does.

The Vegas Diamonds Fortune Wheel. Three bonus symbols trigger three guaranteed spins on a wheel that can progress through Bronze, Silver and Golden tiers. Rewards run from 100× the bet at Bronze to 1,000× at Golden.

The story behind the game

Released 6 November 2018.

It is a genuine outlier in ELK’s catalogue. The studio’s identity is built on elaborate, mechanically dense games — Pirots with its collecting birds on an expanding 6 × 6 grid, Wild Toro with its charging bull, Bushido Gold with rising rows and 4,096 ways. Vegas Diamonds is three reels and five lines.

That is not a criticism. ELK was experimenting in 2018 with what its engine could do on a small board, and the result is a classic-format game with far more structure than classic-format games normally have. Three separate features on a 3 × 3 grid is more than most five-reel slots carry.

The studio never went back to it. Nothing in ELK’s subsequent range uses this format, which makes Vegas Diamonds a one-off rather than the start of a line.

Symbols and paytable

ELK publishes the full values on the in-game information screen. What follows is what makes the board behave the way it does.

The Vegas Diamonds symbolThe one the game is named after, and the trigger for the nudge. Three anywhere in view causes the reels to shift and align them on the middle row.
The bonus symbolThree of them open the Fortune Wheel. Given the board is nine positions, landing three of anything specific is a meaningful event.
The wildListed among the game’s features. No expansion or multiplier behaviour is published, so treat it as a plain substitute on five paylines.
Matching reels 1 and 2 — the respin triggerNot a symbol but a condition. When the first two reels match, both lock for three respins while the third keeps going. This is the mechanic you will see most often.

On nine positions and five lines, every one of those is a visible, countable event. That is the real appeal of this format: there is no ambiguity about what just happened or what you need next, which is the opposite of how ELK’s big games play.

Bonus features and free spins

💎

Perfect Match Respins

Matching symbols on reels 1 and 2 lock for three respins while reel 3 spins on. Three attempts at a known target, on a board where you can see exactly what you need. The most frequent of the three features.

↕

The Vegas Diamonds Nudge

Three Vegas Diamonds anywhere in view and the reels nudge to line them up on the middle row. The game converts a near-miss into a hit, which is a piece of fruit-machine generosity that modern slots almost never offer.

🎰

The Fortune Wheel — 100× to 1,000×

Three bonus symbols award three guaranteed spins on a wheel that can progress Bronze → Silver → Golden. Rewards run from 100× at Bronze to 1,000× at Golden. Guaranteed is the word that matters — there is no losing entry.

📈

Level Up

Listed among the game’s features and tied to the wheel’s tier progression. The wheel is not a single flat prize table; it climbs.

What we like

  • The Fortune Wheel gives three guaranteed spins with a tiered ladder to 1,000× — no losing entry once it opens.
  • The nudge is genuinely player-friendly. A mechanic that completes a near-miss for you is rare in anything made this century.
  • Three real features on a 3 × 3 board is more structure than most five-reel games carry.
  • 96% RTP is respectable, and on five paylines the game is completely legible — there is never any doubt about what happened.
What to watch

  • No usable maximum win. One page says N/A and lists a 200,000 coin figure on the same screen, which is not a stake multiple and cannot be converted without a coin value.
  • RTP ranges exist and are not published. ELK confirms more than one build and does not say what the others are.
  • The hit frequency is listed as 14.4 with no unit, so it cannot be quoted as a percentage with any confidence.
  • Five paylines is five paylines. If you want the game to do something on most spins, this is not the format.

How Vegas Diamonds compares

Against the rest of the ELK catalogue, Vegas Diamonds is barely the same studio — which is the most useful thing a comparison can show here.

GameStudioRTPVolatilityMax winGrid
Vegas DiamondsELK Studios96%HighNot published3 × 3, 5 lines
Langley Street 23ELK Studios96%High (7/10)10,000×5 × 5, 35 lines

Bushido GoldELK Studios96%High (7/10)25,000×6 reels, 4,096 ways
Pirots 5ELK Studios96%Medium-high10,000×6 × 6, CollectR

Every one of them runs the same 96% — ELK is unusually consistent on return — and every one of them publishes a ceiling where this does not. The difference is entirely in scale: 9 positions and 5 lines here against 4,096 ways in Bushido Gold. If you want ELK’s mechanical ambition, this is the wrong game. If you want 96% on a board you can read at a glance, it is the only one.

Vegas Diamonds RTP, volatility and max win

The published figure is 96%, which is ELK’s house number — every game of theirs reviewed on this site carries it.

The game has RTP ranges, meaning more than one certified build is in circulation and the operator chooses. ELK does not publish the alternative values, so there is no way to say how far below 96% the lower builds sit. The running figure is on the information screen.

The high volatility rating is worth taking seriously despite the small board. Five paylines on nine positions means relatively few winning combinations exist, and the top end is concentrated in a Fortune Wheel that needs three specific symbols to open. A session will be quiet until it is not.

One figure that would help is unavailable in usable form: the hit frequency is listed as 14.4 with no unit stated. It may be a percentage, it may be something else. Quoting it as “14.4%” would be a guess, so it is not quoted here.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

ELK sets the range per operator and no single span is published for this title.

All five paylines are staked on every spin, so coin value is the only control. There is no feature buy — ELK has generally avoided them, and in several regulated markets they would not be permitted anyway.

The absence matters a little more than usual here. The Fortune Wheel is the only part of the game with a meaningful top end, it needs three bonus symbols on a nine-position board, and there is no way to shortcut it. That is the deal: a cheap, legible game with one good bonus you have to wait for.

Playing on mobile

Runs in the browser on a phone with no download and no app. A 3 × 3 grid is the ideal shape for portrait play — the symbols are large, the five paylines are easy to follow, and nothing gets lost. ELK builds mobile-first and it shows. Of the ten games reviewed in this batch, this is the one that works best on a small screen.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Read the RTP off the information screen. ELK confirms multiple builds exist for this game and publishes none of the lower ones.
  2. Watch reels 1 and 2. Matching them locks both for three respins, and that is the feature you will see most often by a wide margin.
  3. Three diamonds anywhere triggers the nudge. They do not need to be on a line — the game will move the reels to line them up for you.
  4. The Fortune Wheel is three guaranteed spins. Once it opens there is no losing outcome; the only question is how far up the Bronze–Silver–Golden ladder you get.
  5. Ignore the 200,000 figure you may find. It is a coin total, not a stake multiple, and the same page that lists it also says the max win is not available.

Who this slot is for

This is for someone who wants a classic three-reel game that still has something going on. Three real features on nine positions is unusual, the nudge is charming, and the Fortune Wheel gives you a bonus with a guaranteed outcome and a visible ladder. At 96% on a board you can read instantly, it is a good phone game.

It is not for anyone who came for ELK’s usual ambition. Pirots, Bushido Gold and Wild Toro 3 are what this studio is known for, and they publish ceilings between 10,000× and 25,000× where this publishes none at all. Five paylines is also simply five paylines — most spins will do nothing, and no feature changes that.

Our verdict on Vegas Diamonds

7.0/ 10

ELK’s odd little classic, and better than it looks

A 3 × 3 board with five paylines should be forgettable, and this is not. Three separate features on nine positions — locking respins, a nudge that completes near-misses, and a tiered wheel with three guaranteed spins — is more structure than most five-reel games manage, and every one of them is legible in a way ELK’s big games are not.

The Fortune Wheel is the reason to play. A bonus with no losing outcome and a visible Bronze–Silver–Golden ladder to 1,000× is a satisfying thing to chase on a board this small.

What it lacks is numbers. No usable maximum win, undisclosed RTP builds, and a hit frequency published without a unit leave you judging it by feel. Fortunately the demo is free and the game is simple enough that a short session tells you everything. If you want ELK being ELK, Bushido Gold at 25,000× is the other direction entirely.
