The Buffalo King Megaways demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 200,704 ways, the same tumbles, the same stacking wild multipliers in the free spins. Demo credits have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, and reset when you reload the page.

The thing to watch for in a demo session is how the wild multipliers behave — they accumulate across tumbles within a single free spin and then reset for the next one. That rule is the whole game, and it is far clearer to see than to read.

More on the figures above. The RTP pair, the 5/5 volatility rating, the 5,000× ceiling, the 200,704-way figure, the free-spin frequency, the stake range and the 29 April 2021 release date all come from the game’s own information screen as published by BigWinBoard. Pragmatic’s own game page carries no release date and no volatility rating for this title. On this game the wild multipliers are the only realistic route to it.

How the game plays

Six Megaways reels carrying 2 to 7 symbols each, plus a horizontal reel of 4 symbols above reels 2 to 5. That is the configuration that produces up to 200,704 ways, the same grid Great Rhino Megaways and Madame Destiny Megaways use.

Wins tumble: winning symbols are removed, new ones drop in, and the sequence continues while wins keep forming. Low-value symbols are the 10-to-Ace royals. The high values are moose, wolves, cougars, eagles and buffalo, and the top buffalo line pays 20× the stake — a typical Megaways figure and a modest one.

The wild substitutes for standard pay symbols and lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4. In the base game that is all it does. In the free spins it is the entire engine.

The story behind the game

Buffalo King Megaways arrived on 29 April 2021 as the Megaways rebuild of Buffalo King, Pragmatic’s earlier five-reel plains slot. The buffalo theme is one of the most heavily worked in the industry — it long predates this game and Pragmatic is not the originator of it — so what distinguishes this one has to be the mechanics rather than the setting.

On that measure it sits in the middle of Pragmatic’s Megaways family: more interesting than Madame Destiny Megaways, less generous than Great Rhino Megaways, on a grid all three share.

Symbols and paytable

The symbol values are standard Megaways fare. The free-spin table is where this game separates itself from its two stablemates.

Royals (10 to Ace)the low-pay set; individual values are not published
Moose, wolves, cougars, eaglesthe high-pay set; individual values are not published
Buffalo, six of a kind20× the stake
Wildreels 2, 3 and 4 only, substitutes for standard pay symbols
4 scatters12 free spins and a 5× win
5 scatters17 free spins and a 20× win
6 scatters22 free spins and a 100× win
Wild multipliers (free spins only)x2, x3 or x5, on reels 2, 3 and 4
Multiplier behaviouraccumulate across tumbles within a spin, reset between spins
Retrigger3 bonus symbols, +5 free spins, no published limit

Note what the scatter rows do that most Megaways games do not: the trigger itself pays. Six scatters award 22 free spins and 100× the stake before the round even starts, which softens the 5,000× ceiling considerably.

Bonus features and free spins

🐂

Wild multipliers that build inside a single spin

During free spins the wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4 carry x2, x3 or x5 multipliers. They accumulate across the tumbles of one spin — so a long tumble chain keeps adding to the figure applied at the end of it — and then reset for the next free spin. Every free spin is therefore its own self-contained build.

🎁

The trigger pays before the round starts

Four scatters give 12 free spins and a 5× win. Five give 17 spins and 20×. Six give 22 spins and 100×. That cash component is unusual in a Megaways game and it means a six-scatter trigger has already returned a hundred times your stake before a single free spin has been played.

📈

An extra reel buys 200,704 ways

The four-symbol horizontal reel above reels 2 to 5 lifts the maximum from the standard 117,649 of a six-reel Megaways grid to 200,704. It is the same arrangement Pragmatic uses across its Megaways family, and it is why these games all quote the same ways figure.

🔄

Retriggers with no published ceiling

Three bonus symbols during the round add 5 free spins, and the information screen states no limit on how often this can happen. Combined with a published free-spin frequency of 1 in 446, the round is harder to start than it is to extend.

💵

Ante bet and feature buy, where allowed

The ante bet costs 25% more per spin and doubles the chance of triggering free spins without changing any symbol values. The feature buy takes you straight into the round for 100× the total bet. Both are prohibited in the UK and several other markets.

What we like

  • The scatter trigger pays cash — up to 100× the stake on six scatters, before the free spins begin. Few Megaways games do this.
  • Wild multipliers accumulate across tumbles, so a long chain inside one free spin compounds rather than paying flat.
  • 96.52% on the top build is marginally above the broad industry average and effectively level with its two stablemates.
  • Up to 200,704 ways on a grid that is well proven, with tumbles that keep a winning spin alive.
  • Retriggers have no published limit, which gives a round that starts well a genuine chance to run long.
What to watch

  • 5,000× is a quarter of Great Rhino Megaways’ ceiling on an identical grid from the same studio at effectively the same RTP. That comparison is hard to argue with.
  • Multipliers reset between free spins, so nothing carries across the round — unlike Great Rhino Megaways, where the multiplier climbs for the whole bonus.
  • Free spins arrive once in 446 spins without an ante bet, which is a long base game at 5/5 volatility.
  • Only two RTP builds are published, and the lower one is two full points down at 94.51%.
  • The buffalo theme is the most reused idea in slots. Nothing here distinguishes it visually from a dozen other games.

How Buffalo King Megaways compares

Against its two stablemates on an identical grid, and against the studio that built the engine all three run on.

GameStudioRTP (top)VolatilityMax winBonus multiplier
Buffalo King MegawaysPragmatic Play96.52%High (5/5)5,000×x2/x3/x5, resets each spin
Great Rhino MegawaysPragmatic Play96.58%High (5/5)20,000×+1 per tumble, never resets
Madame Destiny MegawaysPragmatic Play96.56%High (5/5)5,000×up to x25, fixed for the round
Gold MegawaysBig Time Gaming96.42%High20,200×x3 wilds, compounding

Four games, four RTPs within two tenths of a point, and ceilings running from 5,000× to 20,200×. The multiplier column explains the gap: the two games that let a multiplier persist or compound are the two with the big ceilings, and this one resets on every spin.

Buffalo King Megaways RTP, volatility and max win

Buffalo King Megaways is published at more than one RTP. Only two certified builds here, against three on Great Rhino Megaways and Madame Destiny Megaways. The gap between them is two full percentage points, and nothing in the game tells you which one you are playing.

96.52%the headline build, and the one Pragmatic leads with
94.51%two points down — common at casinos that configure for margin

96.52% is the higher of two certified builds; the other is 94.51%, and the casino chooses. Two builds is fewer than most of this catalogue offers, which is a small mercy — but the two-point gap between them is as wide as any three-build ladder elsewhere.

96.52% is a shade above the broad video-slot average and effectively identical to Great Rhino Megaways and Madame Destiny Megaways. The three games return almost exactly the same amount over time; what differs is the shape. Here the return arrives in a frequent-ish base game, a cash scatter payment at the trigger, and free spins that build within each spin and then start over.

The in-game information screen is the only place the active build appears.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

Stakes run from 0.20 to 125 per spin, the same range as Madame Destiny Megaways and slightly wider at the top than Great Rhino Megaways’ 100.

The ante bet adds 25% to the stake and doubles the chance of triggering free spins, leaving symbol values untouched. The feature buy costs 100× the total bet and takes you straight into the round. Against a published free-spin frequency of 1 in 446, both are buying something real — where the market allows them, which the UK and several others do not.

Playing on mobile

The tall, narrow Megaways grid suits a phone well, and the four-symbol bonus reel sits above the main reels rather than beside them, so nothing is cropped at portrait width.

Where the small screen costs you is the multiplier readout during free spins. The accumulating x2, x3 and x5 values are shown on the wilds themselves, and at phone size on a seven-symbol reel they are small. If you want to follow how a tumble chain is building, the first few rounds are better watched with turbo off.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Count the scatters at the trigger. Six pays 100× the stake outright, five pays 20×, four pays 5× — before any free spin is played. It is the most reliable money in the game.
  2. Watch reels 2, 3 and 4 only. Wilds land nowhere else, so a free spin with nothing on those three reels has no multiplier in it at all.
  3. Expect the multiplier to reset. Unlike Great Rhino Megaways, nothing carries from one free spin to the next here — judge each spin on its own tumble chain.
  4. Compare before you commit. Great Rhino Megaways runs on the same grid at the same RTP with four times the ceiling. If the buffalo theme is not the draw, that is the better game.
  5. Check which RTP build you are on. Only two exist and they are two percentage points apart, which is a wide gap for a two-rung ladder.

Where to play Buffalo King Megaways for real money

Who this slot is for

For players who like the plains-and-buffalo setting and want a Megaways game where the bonus trigger itself pays. The cash component at four, five and six scatters is a real feature, and the accumulating wild multipliers make individual free spins more interesting than the flat rounds many Megaways games offer.

It is harder to recommend over its own stablemate. Great Rhino Megaways uses the same grid, the same engine and effectively the same RTP, and carries a 20,000× ceiling against this game’s 5,000×, with a multiplier that never resets. Unless the theme matters to you, that comparison is difficult to get past.

Buffalo King Megaways demo and slot FAQ

Can I play the Buffalo King Megaways demo for free?
Yes. The demo on this page runs the full game on play credits — the same 200,704 ways, the same tumbles and the same free-spin wild multipliers. No account, no deposit, no download.
What is the RTP of Buffalo King Megaways?
Two certified builds: 96.52% and 94.51%. The casino chooses which it runs, and the in-game information screen states the active setting.
What is the maximum win?
5,000× your total bet. That is a quarter of the 20,000× ceiling on Great Rhino Megaways, which uses the same grid, the same engine and effectively the same RTP.
How do the free spins work?
Four, five or six scatters award 12, 17 or 22 free spins and also pay 5×, 20× or 100× the stake outright. During the round, wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4 carry x2, x3 or x5 multipliers that accumulate across the tumbles of a single spin and reset for the next one.
How often do free spins trigger?
The published free-spin frequency is 1 in 446 spins. The ante bet, which adds 25% to the stake, doubles that chance where it is available.
How is it different from Great Rhino Megaways?
Same grid, same ways count, nearly the same RTP. The differences are the ceiling — 5,000× here against 20,000× there — and the multiplier: this one resets every free spin, where Great Rhino Megaways climbs +1 per tumble and never resets.
Can I win real money playing the demo?
No. Demo credits have no cash value, so a demo win cannot be withdrawn and a demo loss costs nothing. 18+.

Our verdict on Buffalo King Megaways

7.0/ 10

A good Megaways game that is outclassed by its own stablemate

Taken on its own, Buffalo King Megaways is a solid piece of work. The scatter trigger pays cash — up to 100× the stake before a free spin is played — which is rarer than it should be, and the wild multipliers accumulating across a tumble chain give each free spin a shape of its own. 96.52%, 200,704 ways and uncapped retriggers are all perfectly respectable numbers.

The problem is the game sitting next to it. Great Rhino Megaways runs on the same grid, licenses the same engine, publishes an RTP six hundredths of a point higher, and carries a ceiling four times as large — with a multiplier that climbs all round instead of resetting every spin. Nothing about Buffalo King Megaways answers that, and the buffalo theme is too heavily worked elsewhere to be a reason on its own.

Worth playing if the setting appeals or you want the cash-paying trigger. If you are choosing purely on the numbers, its stablemate wins.
