The Pelican Payday demo is the free, no-signup version of the second game in Pragmatic Play’s POP range. It is a deliberately small board — three reels by five rows, ten lines, and no wild symbol at all — with a 96.59% headline RTP and a 5,000× cap. Everything here is built around one collector bird, and the demo tells you within minutes whether that is enough.

The Pelican Payday demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 3×5 grid, the same ten lines, the same four jackpot tiers and the same free spins trigger. Only the balance is not real.
What the demo cannot show you is which RTP build a given casino runs. Three exist and the spread is two full points. On any real-money site, open the paytable and read the figure stated there.

Pelican Payday slot at a glance
How the game plays
A three reel by five row grid with 10 paylines, paying left to right, three matching symbols needed. Stakes run from 0.10 to 250.
There is no wild symbol. That is unusual enough to be worth sitting with, because it means every line win is a straight symbol match — nothing substitutes, nothing rescues a near miss. The game’s variety comes entirely from the Money symbols and the collector instead.
Money symbols carry cash values of 0.50×, 1×, 2×, 5× or 10× the bet, or one of four jackpot tiers. The Pelican collector appears only on reel 3 in the base game, and when it lands it collects every visible cash value and jackpot on screen.
The story behind the game
Pelican Payday arrived on 6 October 2026 as the second release in POP, the casual sub-brand Pragmatic Play launched on 31 July 2026. The first was Gates of Olympus POP, which took the studio’s most recognisable game and rebuilt it on the same narrow portrait board.
Pelican Payday is the more honest test of the format, because it is not carrying a famous name. What is left is the format itself: fewer reels, fewer lines, no wild, one collector, shorter sessions.
Symbols and paytable
The symbol ladder is almost beside the point. Everything that matters is in the Money symbols and where the collector can land.
| Money Symbols | Carry 0.50×, 1×, 2×, 5× or 10× the bet, or one of the four jackpots. They do not pay on a line — their value is collected. |
|---|---|
| Mini / Minor | 20× and 50× the bet, the two tiers you will actually see with any regularity. |
| Major / Grand | 100× and 1,000×. The Grand is the largest single value on the board, and it is one fifth of the game’s cap. |
| Pelican collector | Base game: reel 3 only. It collects every visible cash value and jackpot on screen when it lands. |
| Lighthouse scatter | Three of them trigger the bonus. One database records that at roughly 1 in 146 spins. |
| Free Spins | Eight spins. Collectors can now land on all reels, and collected values build in a pot above the grid. |
| Retrigger | Three scatters inside the bonus add eight more spins. |
| Hit frequency | Recorded at 18.58%, roughly 1 in 5.38 spins, by one database. |
| No wild | There is no wild symbol anywhere in the game, base or bonus. |
| No ante, no buy | Neither an Ante Bet nor a Feature Buy. Unusual for a 2026 Pragmatic release, and a deliberate part of the POP brief. |
The single most important line there is the collector’s position. Restricting it to reel 3 in the base game is what keeps the base game quiet and makes the bonus feel like a different game.
Bonus features and free spins
One collector, and in the base game only one reel
The Pelican lands on reel 3 and nowhere else until the bonus. That single restriction is the whole difference between the base game and the free spins, and it is the thing to watch in the demo.
Free spins open the board up
Eight spins, and collectors can now land on all three reels. The collected values accumulate in a pot above the grid rather than paying out one at a time.
Four fixed jackpot tiers
Mini 20x, Minor 50x, Major 100x, Grand 1,000x. All fixed multiples of your bet, not a shared progressive — your stake size decides what they are worth.
No wild symbol at all
Genuinely unusual. Every line win is a straight three-symbol match with nothing substituting, which is a large part of why the base game feels as sparse as it does.
No ante bet, no bonus buy
You cannot pay to reach the bonus or improve its odds. On a casual game that is arguably the right call, and it is the clearest signal of what POP is for.
- 96.59% on the top build is above the industry average, and the highest headline figure of the four Pragmatic releases we reviewed from this week.
- Four fixed jackpot tiers give the collector something to find beyond plain cash values.
- No ante bet and no bonus buy — there is nothing to upsell you into, which is rarer than it should be.
- A 0.10 minimum stake is genuinely low, and on a ten-line board that makes it playable for a long time on very little.
- The portrait 3×5 grid is built for a phone rather than scaled down to one.
- No wild symbol leaves the base game sparse. With a hit roughly every 5.38 spins, long quiet stretches are the normal experience.
- Three RTP builds spanning two full points — 96.59%, 95.61% and 94.59% — chosen by the casino, not by you.
- A 5,000× cap when the largest jackpot on the board is 1,000× means the ceiling needs an accumulation most sessions will never approach.
- The bonus is the only real event in the game, and one database records it at roughly 1 in 146 spins.
- Ten lines and three reels is a small game. That is the point of POP, but it is a short experience once the novelty goes.
How Pelican Payday compares
Pelican Payday against the other POP release we can serve, and against the Pragmatic collect boards nearest to it.
| Game | Range | RTP | Volatility | Max win | Grid |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pelican Payday | POP | 96.59% | Low | 5,000× | 3 × 5, 10 lines |
| Gates of Olympus 2500 | Main line | See review | High | See review | 6 reels |
| Cheetah Wild | Main line | 96.5% | Low | 5,000× | 5 × 4, 1,024 ways |
| Clover Gold | Main line | 96.54% | Medium | 5,000× | 5 × 3, 20 lines |
Three of those four land on exactly 5,000×, which tells you how settled that ceiling has become for Pragmatic’s lower-volatility boards. What separates Pelican Payday is the size of the grid and the absence of a wild — it is the smallest game of the set by some distance.
Pelican Payday RTP, volatility and max win
Pelican Payday is published at more than one RTP. Three builds, two percentage points apart, and the operator chooses. On a low-volatility game built around frequent small collects, that spread is a large share of the appeal.
| 96.59% | The highest setting, and the figure on Pragmatic’s own game page. |
|---|---|
| 95.61% | A second certified build operators may run instead. |
| 94.59% | The lowest of the three, two full points under the headline. |
96.59% is the highest of three certified builds. The others are 95.61% and 94.59%, and the casino chooses. Two points matters anywhere, but it matters most on a game like this one, where the appeal rests on a steady drip of small collects rather than on a rare large result.
The in-game paytable states the applied figure. It is one tap, and it is the only reliable source.
Bets, bankroll and session planning
Stakes run from 0.10 to 250. The four jackpots are fixed multiples of your bet, so stake size directly decides what a Grand is worth — 1,000× at 0.10 and 1,000× at 25 are the same multiple and very different outcomes.
There is no ante bet, so the only lever you have is stake size.
Playing on mobile
This is the format’s strongest argument. A three-column portrait grid fills a phone screen without the dead space a six-reel board leaves, and nothing needs turning sideways or pinching. If you play mostly on a phone, POP games are built for the device you are actually holding.
Five things to know before you spin
- Watch reel 3 in the base game. The collector lands nowhere else until the bonus, so that one column is the entire base-game story.
- Check the paytable RTP on any real-money site. Three builds exist and the spread is two full percentage points.
- Remember the jackpots are multiples of your bet, not fixed cash. A Grand is 1,000x whatever you staked on that spin.
- Do not expect the wild to save a near miss. There is no wild in this game at all, which changes how the base game reads.
- Play it on a phone if you can. The portrait grid is the reason the format exists, and it reads very differently on a desktop monitor.

Who this slot is for
For casual players, short sessions and phones. The absence of an ante bet and a bonus buy makes it one of the few recent Pragmatic releases with nothing trying to upsell you, and the 0.10 minimum makes it genuinely cheap to sit with. If you want a board with things happening on it, this is not that game — three reels, ten lines and no wild is a quiet screen by design.

Our verdict on Pelican Payday
The clearest look yet at what POP actually is
Gates of Olympus POP was a famous game on a new board. Pelican Payday is just the new board, and that makes it the more useful of the two to judge the format by.
What you get is small and honest: three reels, ten lines, no wild, one collector restricted to the middle reel until the bonus opens the game up. The 96.59% headline is the highest of the four Pragmatic releases we covered from this week, and the absence of any ante bet or bonus buy is genuinely to its credit at a time when almost everything ships with both.
What you do not get is depth. The base game is quiet, the bonus arrives roughly once in 146 spins by one database’s count, and once you have seen the pot fill a couple of times you have seen the game. Worth a demo session on a phone, where the format makes the most sense. Less compelling on a desktop, and less compelling still after twenty minutes.
