The Moon Princess demo is the free, no-signup version of Play’n GO’s July 2017 grid game — and it is the blueprint the studio has been rebuilding ever since. A 5×5 cascading grid where three princesses rework the reels on losing spins, where clearing the entire grid is the only way into free spins, and where the multiplier climbs to 20× without ever resetting. The ceiling is 5,000×. The published RTP is the most contradictory we have encountered.

Play the Moon Princess demo free
The Moon Princess demo runs the real game on play credits: the same 5×5 grid, the same three princess powers, the same grid-clear bonus trigger. Nothing is simplified.
Use it, and use it properly, because this game asks you to make a decision that most slots never do. When you finally clear the grid you must choose which princess to take into the free spins — four spins, five spins or eight spins, each with a different power attached. Making that choice well is worth real money, and the demo is the only place you can try all three without spending a bonus round you waited a long time for. It is also, given the state of this game’s published RTP figures, the sensible place to start regardless.

Moon Princess slot at a glance
More on the figures above. The 5×5 grid, the three-symbol win requirement, the Moon Wild, the progressive multiplier to 20×, the names and powers of Love, Star and Storm, the Princess Trinity meter, the grid-clear free-spins trigger, the 4/5/8 spin options, the 20-spin cap and the 200× clear bonus are all from SlotCatalog. The 27 July 2017 release date is from the same source. The 5,000× ceiling is broadly agreed. The conflicting RTP figures are printed exactly as the sources give them: 96.50% (SlotCatalog technical summary, Sigma), 96.00% (Gambling.com) and 94.51% (SlotCatalog attributes panel). SlotCatalog also lists the layout as both 5×5 and 5×3 with 20 paylines in different parts of one page; we have used 5×5, which every description of the game supports. Play’n GO publishes none of these figures.
How the game plays
It is a 5×5 grid. Wins form when three or more matching symbols line up, after which the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in from above. The middle symbol of every winning combination becomes a Moon Wild, which is the quiet engine of the whole game — every win seeds the grid with a wild for the cascade that follows.
A progressive multiplier rises with each successive win in a chain and reaches 20×.
The Girl Power mechanic fires on non-winning spins. One of three princesses standing beside the reels uses her power, then steps aside for one of the other two:
Love transforms a group of symbols into another group. Star adds one or two wilds. Storm removes two groups of symbols entirely. Three genuinely different interventions, and which princess is currently on duty materially changes what a dead spin becomes.
Winning combinations that include a princess symbol charge the Princess Trinity meter. When it fills you get one free spin on which all three princesses use their powers in turn.
The main bonus has no scatter. You must clear every symbol from the grid. Do that and you choose your round: Love for 4 spins, Star for 5, Storm for 8, with the chosen power firing on every non-winning spin. The multiplier does not reset, charging the meter adds spins up to a total of 20, and clearing the grid again during free spins pays a 200× bonus.
The story behind the game
Play’n GO released Moon Princess on 27 July 2017. Our catalogue now holds eight games carrying the name — the original plus 100, Origins, Extreme, Stargazing, Trinity, Power of Love and Christmas Kingdom.
Its real importance is architectural, and it is visible from inside our own archive. Thirteen months after this game, Play’n GO released Rise of Olympus: a 5×5 cascading grid, three mythological figures with distinct powers that fire on non-winning spins, a shared charge meter, and free spins triggered by clearing the entire board in three selectable modes. That is not a similar game. That is this game with Greek gods in place of the princesses.
Moon Princess is where the template was built, and the pattern did not stop there — the studio has since reworked it across both families repeatedly, pushing ceilings from this game’s 5,000× up to 10,000× and beyond in the sequels. Reviewing the original now is reviewing the design everything else was derived from, and it holds up remarkably well for a 2017 release.

The line that decides how this game plays is ‘the middle symbol of every win becomes wild’. It means a cascade does not merely remove symbols, it actively seeds the next drop with help — which is how a grid that needs to be emptied entirely is clearable at all. Combined with a multiplier that climbs to 20× without resetting, a long chain compounds in two directions at once.
Bonus features and free spins
The Moon Wild
The middle symbol of every winning combination turns wild. It sounds like a detail and is the foundation of the game: each win leaves behind help for the cascade after it, which is the only reason emptying a 5×5 grid is realistic at all.
Progressive multiplier to 20×
Each successive win in a chain raises the multiplier, up to 20×. It does not reset during free spins, so a long bonus accumulates rather than restarting — and the biggest wins in this game are almost always a late cascade landing under a multiplier built much earlier.
Girl Power, on losing spins
On a spin that wins nothing, the princess currently beside the reels uses her power and then swaps out for one of the other two. Love transforms a group of symbols into another group, Star adds one or two wilds, Storm removes two groups outright. A dead spin is never fully dead.
Princess Trinity
Winning combinations containing a princess symbol charge a meter. When it fills, you get one free spin on which all three princesses use their powers in turn — frequently the push that clears the last awkward symbols off the board.
Clear the grid, then choose your round
There is no scatter. The only route into free spins is emptying all twenty-five squares. You then pick: Love for 4 spins, Star for 5, Storm for 8, with that power firing on every non-winning spin. The meter can extend the round to 20 spins, and clearing the grid again inside it pays 200×.
- The Moon Wild — every win seeds the next cascade, which is elegant and genuinely load-bearing
- A progressive multiplier to 20× that never resets during free spins
- Three princess powers that do three different things, firing on losing spins
- Choosing your free-spins round (4, 5 or 8 spins) is a real decision, not a cosmetic one
- A 200× bonus for clearing the grid again inside the round gives the bonus its own objective
- Still the best-designed game in a family of eight, nine years after release
- The published RTP is a mess — 96.50%, 96.00% and 94.51% all appear, two of them on one page
- Play’n GO publishes no RTP, volatility or maximum win for the game at all
- Our main source also contradicts itself on the layout, giving both 5×5 and 5×3 with 20 lines
- Clearing a full 5×5 grid is a demanding trigger, so bonus rounds are genuinely scarce
- Rated 10/10 for volatility, and the 5,000× ceiling is modest next to the sequels’ 10,000×+
- Eight titles now share the name and their figures are routinely mixed together
How Moon Princess compares
How the 2017 original sits against the other Play’n GO grid games in our archive.
| Game | Released | Grid | RTP | Bonus trigger |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moon Princess | Jul 2017 | 5 × 5 | 96.50% | clear the grid |
| Rise of Olympus | Aug 2018 | 5 × 5 | 96.50% | clear the grid |
| Reactoonz | Oct 2017 | 7 × 7 cluster | 96.51% | charge meter |
| Reactoonz 2 | 2020 | 7 × 7 cluster | 96.20% | charge meter |
| Gemix | 2014 | 7 × 7 cluster | not published | world completion |
| Tome of Madness | Jun 2019 | 5 × 5 cluster | 96.59% | Portal Meter at 42 |
Set the first two rows side by side and the lineage is unmistakable. Moon Princess and Rise of Olympus share a grid size, an RTP, a bonus trigger and a design philosophy — three characters with distinct powers that intervene on losing spins, a charge meter, and free spins that must be earned by emptying the board. Rise of Olympus arrived thirteen months later with Greek gods in the roles.
What the original still has over its successor is the Moon Wild. Rise of Olympus asks you to clear the grid and gives you three gods to help; Moon Princess asks the same and additionally turns the middle symbol of every win into a wild, so the board actively helps clear itself. It is the more generous and the more elegant of the two mechanics, and it is why a 2017 game is still the better one nine years on.
Moon Princess RTP, volatility and max win
Moon Princess is published at more than one RTP. This game has the messiest published RTP of any review in our archive. SlotCatalog gives 96.50% in its technical summary and 94.51% in its attributes panel on the same page. Gambling.com gives 96.00%. Sigma agrees with 96.50%. We have used 96.50% as the headline because two independent sources carry it, but we are not confident in it, and neither should you be — read the information panel in the game itself.
| 96.50% | the figure in SlotCatalog’s technical summary, corroborated by Sigma |
|---|---|
| 96.00% | the figure Gambling.com prints |
| 94.51% | listed in SlotCatalog’s own attributes panel, on the same page as 96.50% |
We have to be unusually blunt here. Moon Princess has the most contradictory published RTP of any game in our archive, and we are not confident telling you what it is.
SlotCatalog’s technical summary says 96.50%. SlotCatalog’s attributes panel, on the same page, says 94.51%. Gambling.com says 96.00%. Sigma agrees with 96.50%. Play’n GO publishes nothing at all.
We have used 96.50% as our headline because two independent sources carry it and it matches Rise of Olympus, this game’s direct architectural successor. But the 94.51% figure is not obviously wrong either — it sits exactly where a second rung on the Play’n GO RTP ladder would sit. Our archive documents that ladder across seven titles, and its second rung lands between 94.20% and 94.52% every single time. A 94.51% build for this game would be completely in keeping with how this studio configures its catalogue.
Which means the most likely explanation is not that one source is wrong. It is that both figures are real builds of the same game, and the databases have indexed different ones. That is the same situation we found on Tome of Madness, where the headline 96.59% is widely indexed while a 94.52% build was observed running at four UK operators.
The conclusion is the same and it is the only safe one: open the game’s information panel at the casino you are actually using. On most slots that is good practice. On this one, the published figures span two full points and we cannot tell you which applies.
Bets, bankroll and session planning
The game has no paylines to switch on or off, so the stake is the only lever and every spin uses the whole grid.
Bet sizing matters here because of how the bonus is reached. Clearing all twenty-five squares is not something you can hurry, and at a rated 10/10 volatility the gaps between full clears can be long. A stake that lets you see a lot of spins is worth more on this game than one sized for the ceiling — the multiplier does the heavy lifting, and the multiplier only climbs on chains you are still playing to see.
Playing on mobile
A 5×5 grid is square and fits a phone screen cleanly — there is no five-reel width to compress and no payline overlay to read.
Two pieces of interface are worth locating before you start: the Princess Trinity meter and whichever princess is currently on duty beside the reels. On a narrow screen these reflow and are easy to miss, and between them they tell you what a losing spin is about to do and how close the all-three-powers spin is.
Five things to know before you spin
- Check the RTP in the game’s information panel. On this title the published figures range from 94.51% to 96.50% and we cannot tell you which you will get.
- Watch which princess is on duty. She determines what your next losing spin does, and the three powers are not equally useful on a given board.
- Remember the middle symbol of every win turns wild. Short chains are worth more than they look because each one leaves help behind.
- Choose free-spins rounds deliberately. Storm’s 8 spins plus a non-resetting multiplier compounds more than Love’s 4 — but Love’s transformations clear boards faster.
- Inside free spins, clearing the grid again pays 200×. That is a second objective worth playing toward, not an accident.
- Check which Moon Princess you are reading about — eight titles share the name and the sequels reach 10,000× and beyond.

Who this slot is for
This suits a player who wants a grid game with real texture: a bonus that must be earned, a multiplier that rewards patience, and a mechanic that makes losing spins interesting rather than merely survivable. Nine years on it is still better designed than most of what has followed it, including its own sequels.
It will frustrate anyone who wants frequent bonuses or a large ceiling. Emptying twenty-five squares with no scatter shortcut is demanding, the volatility is rated 10/10, and 5,000× is modest next to the 10,000×-plus the sequels offer. And the unresolved RTP situation means that, uniquely in our archive, we cannot tell you with confidence what this game returns.

Our verdict on Moon Princess
The 2017 design Play’n GO has been rebuilding ever since — and still the best version of it
Reviewing Moon Princess after Rise of Olympus is a slightly uncanny experience, because they are the same game. A 5×5 cascading grid. Three characters with genuinely distinct powers that fire on losing spins. A charge meter that eventually triggers all three at once. Free spins reachable only by emptying the entire board, then offered in three modes with different spin counts. Rise of Olympus arrived thirteen months later and swapped princesses for gods.
What keeps the original ahead is one mechanic its successor does not have: the Moon Wild. Turning the middle symbol of every win wild means each cascade actively seeds the next, so the board helps clear itself. On a game whose only bonus trigger is a complete clear, that is not a flourish — it is the thing that makes the objective reachable. Pair it with a progressive multiplier that climbs to 20× and never resets, and the best moments here come from a chain that quietly builds for twenty seconds before a late cascade lands under all of it.
The bonus has its own internal goal, too, which few games of this era bothered with: clearing the grid again inside free spins pays 200×. Choosing Storm’s eight spins over Love’s four is a real decision with real consequences, and the demo is the right place to form a view on it.
The problem is the paperwork. We cannot tell you what this game returns. One source prints 96.50% and 94.51% on the same page; another prints 96.00%; the studio prints nothing. Our archive documents a Play’n GO RTP ladder whose second rung lands between 94.20% and 94.52% across seven titles, which makes 94.51% entirely plausible as a real build rather than an error. The likeliest truth is that both figures are genuine and the databases indexed different ones — exactly what we found on Tome of Madness.
So: an excellent, influential, still-sharp game, and a page where the single most useful instruction is to open the information panel and read the number yourself. Nine years on, the design is in better shape than the documentation.
