Sugar Rush slot by Pragmatic Play — game artwork

The Sugar Rush demo is the free, no-signup version of Pragmatic Play’s June 2022 cluster-pays slot — gummy bears and jellybeans on a seven-reel grid where winning clusters mark their positions, and every repeat win on a marked spot doubles its multiplier: 2x, 4x, 8x, all the way to 128x. Pragmatic publishes 96.50%, the ceiling is 5,000× the total bet, and BigWinBoard prices that ceiling at 1 in 2,340,000 — far nearer than anything else in the family. Play it free here.

The Sugar Rush demo runs the real game on play money: the same clusters, the same marked spots, the same doubling multipliers. No download, no account, no deposit.

One mechanic makes the demo genuinely necessary here. In the base game, marked positions and their multipliers reset every spin. Inside free spins they persist for the whole round. Those are two different games sharing one set of symbols, and reading that sentence does not convey what the second one feels like when a corner of the grid has been hit six times and is sitting on 64x. Two hundred free spins will get you there; no description will.

JackpotNoneNo jackpot, fixed or progressive. Every win comes from the paytable and the multipliers sitting on marked positions.

How the game plays

Sugar Rush is a cluster-pays slot on a seven-reel grid. Five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically form a win, and clusters of 5 to 15 or more pay up to 150× the total bet. Winning symbols are removed and new ones tumble in, as on any cascade game.

The mechanic that makes it a different game is what happens to the positions. When a cluster wins, every grid spot it occupied is marked. If a winning symbol then lands on one of those marked spots during the same spin, a multiplier is attached to it — starting at 2x. Hit it again and the multiplier doubles to 4x. Again, 8x. The ladder runs 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x and tops out at 128x, which is seven wins on the same position.

So the question this game asks is not “did I win?” but “did I win there again?”. A scattered run of clusters across the whole board pays its face value. A run that keeps returning to the same corner compounds.

In the base game the marks and multipliers reset at the end of every spin. That is the ceiling on what the base game can do, and it is why the bonus matters so much.

Three, four, five, six or seven scatters award 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 free spins. Inside the round, marked spots and their multipliers do not reset between spins. They accumulate across the entire feature. Thirty free spins with the grid progressively filling with multiplied positions is the whole reason this game exists.

BigWinBoard records a hit roughly one spin in 2.9 and the free spins arriving about once in 323 spins.

The story behind the game

Pragmatic released Sugar Rush on 16 June 2022, three years after Sweet Bonanza had already made the studio’s name in the sweets aisle. Rather than clone the pay-anywhere tumbler, it built a cluster game with a position-memory mechanic, which was a genuinely different idea.

It worked well enough that the engine was reused. Sugar Rush 1000 raised the multiplier cap. Sweet Rush Bonanza borrowed the furniture. Sugar Rush Super Scatter applied the studio’s 2025 scatter-pays treatment to it. The original remains the cleanest statement of the idea.

It is worth noting what Pragmatic did not do here, because the contrast with its 2026 output is stark. There is no wheel choosing between four bonus variants, no ladder of five special bets, no four-tier buy menu running to 1,250× the stake. Sugar Rush has one bonus round and one mechanic that behaves differently inside it. The entire design can be explained in two sentences, and it is still the most reachable big ceiling in the family four years later.

Symbols and paytable

Pragmatic publishes the cluster bands and the multiplier ladder on its own game page; BigWinBoard supplies the frequencies. All values are multiples of the total bet — there are no lines to divide by.

Clusters of 5 to 15+Pay up to 150× the total bet, per Pragmatic’s own page. Five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically.
Marked spotsEvery position a winning cluster occupied is marked. A win landing on a marked spot attaches a multiplier to it.
The multiplier ladderStarts at 2x and doubles on each repeat win at that position: 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x. Seven hits on one spot to reach the cap.
Base game resetMarked spots and their multipliers clear at the end of every base-game spin. Nothing carries between spins outside the bonus.
Free spins triggerThree, four, five, six or seven scatters award 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 free spins respectively.
Free spins persistenceMarked spots and multipliers last the entire round. This is the single mechanical difference between the base game and the feature, and it is the whole game.
FrequenciesA win roughly once in 2.9 spins; the bonus roughly once in 323 spins; the 5,000× ceiling at 1 in 2,340,000, all per BigWinBoard.
Bet range0.20 to 100 a spin per BigWinBoard and SlotCatalog.

What is not here: a wild, a gamble, a jackpot or a second screen. Pragmatic does not publish individual symbol values for this title, and we are not going to reconstruct them — the cluster bands and the multiplier ladder are what the studio states, and they are what decides outcomes.

Bonus features and free spins

🍭

Positions remember, symbols do not

Every spot a winning cluster occupied gets marked. The game is built around returning to those spots, not around which symbol landed — which is what separates it from every other cluster slot in the catalogue.

✖

Multipliers that double to 128x

2x on the first repeat win at a marked position, then 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x and 128x. Seven hits on the same spot to cap it. Doubling, not adding — the opposite of how Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus work.

🔒

Free spins where nothing resets

In the base game marks and multipliers clear every spin. Inside the bonus they persist for the whole round, so thirty free spins build a progressively more multiplied board. This is the entire reason to want the feature.

🎯

A ceiling you might actually see

5,000× at 1 in 2,340,000 spins on BigWinBoard’s figures. Against Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter’s 50,000× at 1 in 833,333,333, this is roughly 356 times more reachable for a tenth of the headline.

📈

A win every 2.9 spins

One of the highest hit rates in Pragmatic’s catalogue, on a game rated five out of five for volatility. Frequent small clusters, with everything that matters concentrated in the marked-spot compounding.

What we like

  • The marked-spot mechanic is a genuinely original idea that four years of imitation has not improved on.
  • Multipliers that double rather than add — a 128x cap reached by returning to one position seven times, which rewards watching the board rather than hoping for a symbol.
  • The most reachable ceiling in Pragmatic’s sweets lineage: 1 in 2,340,000 against Super Scatter’s 1 in 833 million.
  • A win roughly every 2.9 spins, so the base game pays while you wait for the bonus.
  • One bonus round, one mechanic, no wheel and no five-tier buy menu. The 2022 restraint reads very well against the studio’s 2026 output.
What to watch

  • Three certified builds at 96.50%, 95.50% and 94.50%, and nothing on screen tells you which one you have.
  • SlotCatalog currently headlines this game at 95.5% — the middle build — which will mislead anyone checking a single source.
  • Rated five out of five for volatility, and the base game resets its marks every spin, so a session without a bonus is 150× clusters at best and usually far less.
  • The bonus arrives once in about 323 spins. On a game where the feature is the whole point, that is a long wait at any stake.
  • Pragmatic publishes no individual symbol values, so the only published pay figures are the cluster bands.

How Sugar Rush compares

Pragmatic’s sweets games all look alike in a lobby and behave nothing alike. Figures from BigWinBoard except where marked:

GameReleasedMechanicMultiplier capMax winMax-win probability
Sugar RushJun 2022cluster + marked spots128x5,000×1 in 2,340,000
Sweet BonanzaJun 2019pay anywhere + tumble100x21,100×not published
Sweet Bonanza Super ScatterJul 2025scatter paysnot published50,000×1 in 833,333,333
Gates of Olympus 2500Sep 2026pay anywhere + tumble2,500x25,000×1 in 1,984,521

The last column is the one worth reading. Super Scatter advertises ten times Sugar Rush’s ceiling and prices it at 356 times further away. Gates of Olympus 2500 offers five times the headline at roughly the same probability, which makes it the better buy on that measure alone — but it wins anything at all once in 3.58 spins against Sugar Rush’s one in 2.9, and its bonus takes 443 spins against 323.

Sugar Rush is the game on this table you can actually play through. It pays most often, its bonus arrives soonest, and its ceiling is the nearest. What it gives up is the number on the tile — and on the evidence of the other three rows, that number is mostly decoration.

Sugar Rush RTP, volatility and max win

Sugar Rush is published at more than one RTP. Three certified builds and the casino chooses. The marked spots, the doubling multipliers and the 5,000× ceiling are identical in all three, so nothing on screen tells you which you have. The in-game information screen does.

96.50%The build Pragmatic Play publishes on its own game page, and the top of the three.
95.50%A middle build, a full point lower.
94.50%The lowest in circulation, two points below the published figure. SlotCatalog’s headline for this game currently shows 95.5%, which is the middle build — a good illustration of why you cannot trust a single aggregator reading.

Pragmatic Play publishes 96.50% on its own game page, and BigWinBoard confirms it alongside two lower certified builds at 95.50% and 94.50%.

There is a trap here worth pointing out. SlotCatalog currently headlines this game at 95.5% — the middle build, not the top one. Anyone checking a single aggregator will come away with a figure a full point below what the studio publishes. It is a good argument for the habit we recommend on every review: the number that matters is the one on the information screen inside the game at your casino, not the one on any database.

Volatility. BigWinBoard rates it High, five out of five, and SlotCatalog agrees on high. Pragmatic publishes no rating. The maths supports the top rating despite the frequent wins: a hit every 2.9 spins sounds gentle, but the base game resets its marked spots every spin and clusters pay up to 150× only at the very top of the band. Almost all of the distribution’s weight sits inside a bonus that arrives once in 323 spins.

Maximum win. 5,000× the total bet, at 1 in 2,340,000 spins per BigWinBoard. That is the most reachable ceiling of any game in Pragmatic’s sweets lineage, and roughly 356 times nearer than Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter’s 50,000×. A lower number you might see beats a higher one you will not.

Bets, bankroll and session planning

The range is 0.20 to 100 a spin per BigWinBoard and SlotCatalog, and that figure is the total bet — cluster values and multipliers all apply to it directly.

The number to plan around is 323, the average spins between bonus triggers. At 0.20 a spin that is about 65 in turnover for one expected feature; at 1.00 a spin, 323. Because the base game resets its marked positions every spin, a session that never reaches the bonus genuinely never sees the mechanic the game is built on — this is not a title where the base game is a lesser version of the feature, it is a different game.

That argues for a lower stake and a longer session than you might choose on a game with a 1-in-100 feature. The hit rate of one win in 2.9 spins keeps the balance moving while you get there, which makes the wait more tolerable than the 323 figure suggests.

If your casino offers a bonus buy on this title, weigh it against that 323: the buy is replacing roughly 323 spins of base game, and the base game is the part without the mechanic. Pragmatic does not publish buy prices or per-option RTPs for this game on any source we trust, so check the interface at your casino and the demo above before deciding.

Playing on mobile

A seven-reel cluster grid is a lot of positions on a phone, and this is the game where that matters most — the whole point is tracking which spots are marked and what multiplier each carries. In portrait those markers get small exactly when they get interesting, which is deep into a free spins round with half the board multiplied.

Landscape is the right call here more than on most slots. There are no paylines to trace, so the layout itself is simple; it is the state on top of it that needs the pixels. On the plus side the game is from 2022, before the studio’s builds ballooned — nothing about it is heavy to load.

Five things to know before you spin

  1. Open the information screen and read the RTP before you stake money. Three builds exist at 96.50%, 95.50% and 94.50%, and SlotCatalog headlines the middle one — so a quick search will actively mislead you here.
  2. Watch positions, not symbols. The game marks grid spots, not symbol types. A cluster that keeps returning to one corner is worth far more than the same number of wins spread across the board.
  3. The multipliers double, they do not add. 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x. Seven wins on one position caps it — which is why persistence inside the bonus matters so much.
  4. The base game is not a small version of the bonus. Marks and multipliers reset every spin outside free spins. Without a trigger you never see the mechanic at all.
  5. Budget past 323 spins. That is the average wait for the feature. At one win per 2.9 spins the balance moves while you wait, but the interesting part is genuinely that far out.

Who this slot is for

This is for the player who likes a slot with a board state. Most cluster games are a sequence of unrelated cascades; Sugar Rush turns the grid itself into something you are building, and inside the free spins that structure survives across thirty spins. If watching a corner of the board climb 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x sounds more interesting than waiting for one big symbol, this is the game on our list for you.

It also suits someone who has looked at the headline numbers on Pragmatic’s newer releases and found them hollow. 5,000× at 1 in 2.34 million is a smaller promise kept far closer than 50,000× at 1 in 833 million, and the comparison table above makes that case better than any adjective can.

It is not for a short session or a small bankroll played flat. The feature averages one trigger in 323 spins and the base game cannot show you what the game does. If you want a Pragmatic title where the round arrives roughly every hundred spins, our review of Eternal Diamonds covers one.

Sugar Rush demo and slot FAQ

Can I play the Sugar Rush demo for free?
Yes — the demo above is the full game on play money, with no account and no deposit. It runs the same clusters, the same marked spots and the same free spins as the real-money version. Demo credits have no cash value.
What is the RTP of Sugar Rush?
Pragmatic Play publishes 96.50% on its own game page, and BigWinBoard confirms it with two lower certified builds at 95.50% and 94.50%. Note that SlotCatalog currently headlines the game at 95.5%, which is the middle build — check the information screen inside the game rather than any single database.
How do the Sugar Rush multipliers work?
Every position a winning cluster occupies is marked. When a winning symbol lands on a marked position again during the same spin, a multiplier attaches, starting at 2x. Each further win at that position doubles it: 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x and finally 128x.
What is the difference between the base game and free spins?
Persistence. In the base game, marked spots and their multipliers reset at the end of every spin. Inside free spins they last the entire round and accumulate, so a thirty-spin feature builds a progressively more multiplied board. It is the single mechanical difference and the whole reason to want the bonus.
How many free spins can you get?
Three, four, five, six or seven scatters award 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 free spins respectively. BigWinBoard records the trigger arriving roughly once in every 323 spins.
What is the maximum win on Sugar Rush?
5,000× your total bet, per BigWinBoard and SlotCatalog, at a probability BigWinBoard puts at 1 in 2,340,000 spins. That is the most reachable ceiling in Pragmatic’s sweets lineage — roughly 356 times nearer than Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter’s 50,000×.
Is Sugar Rush high volatility?
Yes — BigWinBoard rates it five out of five and SlotCatalog agrees. The hit rate of one win in 2.9 spins makes the base game feel busy, but the marked spots reset every spin outside the bonus, so almost all of the game’s weight sits in a feature arriving once in 323 spins.

Our verdict on Sugar Rush

8.2/ 10

A board you build, and the nearest big ceiling Pragmatic has published

Four years on, Sugar Rush is still the most interesting idea Pragmatic has had in this corner of its catalogue. Marking grid positions rather than tracking symbols turns a cascade game into something with a state you are constructing, and making those marks persist for an entire thirty-spin feature while resetting them every spin in the base game is a clean, legible design decision that most studios would have fudged. The multiplier ladder doubling to 128x fits it exactly: you are not waiting for a symbol, you are hoping to land in the same place again. And the maths is honest in a way the studio’s newer releases are not — 5,000× at 1 in 2.34 million is a real possibility, where Super Scatter’s 50,000× at 1 in 833 million is decoration. The marks against it are the wait and the paperwork: 323 spins for a feature you genuinely need to see the game, three certified RTP builds with nothing on screen to distinguish them, and a major database headlining the middle one. Open the information screen, then enjoy it.
